The Metropolitan Cathedral and Basilica of St Chad in Birmingham was built by Pugin between 1839 and 1841, to serve the rapidly expanding Catholic population in Birmingham. It is a beautiful building and takes inspiration from German Gothic for it's long large roof.
The first bell was given to the Cathedral in 1840, and was soon after recast into five smaller ones. Augmented to eight in 1877, these bells were replaced by Taylors of Loughborough in 1940, by the superb ring that hangs in the tower today. They hang next to the bell openings, with 3,4 and five on a second tier above the rest. They are not easy to ring well, due to a long draft and tower movement, but certainly reward your effort.
