In this video I share my family's one week stay in St Ives in Cornwall. we explore St Ives and surrounding places. We visited porthcurno beach and Minack Theatre, Paradise Park in hayle and walk to carbis bay. We didn't have a car with us as we arrived by train so we relied on public transport which was great and we loved the Lands end coaster.
If you would like to watch more detailed videos of our days out the links are below...

I’m lucky enough to live here as my parents decided to move a couple years ago to escape the hectic London life and I still have to kick myself that I live in my dream place. We’ve always gone on holiday here and I’m so grateful to be here permanently now. ❤

A lovely blog, as a Cornishman living close to St Ives (in a village near Hayle) but travelling to London for work fairly often - I empathise with the journey length. We have the same experience travelling UP to the Lake District (10 hrs in July). Cornwall is a wonderful place tp live, however, the sad thing is that tourists visit only the “hot spots” which means they miss that vast majority of Cornwall we know as locals. It also causes awful congestion in certain areas. Just please don’t be tempted to buy a second home here -it’s caused total desolation of places like St Ives and Mousehole etc For a true picture of Cornwall by the way, come down in the winter when the second homes are empty and the shops are shut because the towns are dead - especially St Ives and Newquay etc Final note - locals dread summer but know we need the tourists. It just makes it a crap place to live unfortunately, our homeland becomes a theme park.

Having live here, I watch a lot of videos looking through the eyes of visitors. I must admit, this is a refreshing video to the usual ones. A very professional blog, and well done for taking the initiative to use the local transportation. Parking in ST Ives is almost impossible. A visit to the restaurant at West, down at Porthmeor beach, is a must the food there is fantastic.

Thank you I'm really glad you enjoyed this video, it was a beautiful place to show off and yes the weather definitely helped 😊 I completely agree with you the food was reasonable especially for St Ives, we just aren't used to spending a lot of money on food, we never eat out because we are always saving money for our next adventure. In our local area they do kids fish and chips that would feed an adult for £2 so I think it was just a shock for us 🤣 but as the week went on and got used to it we ended up paying £30 for a coffee and 3 ice creams in the tate without thinking to much of it lol. Thanks so much for watching and for the kind words 🙂

Agree 100%, very sad - it’s lovely to look at if you look in the right places. But as with every Cornish town the simple fact is that social deprivation is always behind the curtains - in st Ives case most definitely. Tourists are seeing an “idea” of what Cornwall is, not the true Cornwall we live in. Just a fact of life.

@@richjackson8349 So true. Before moving away late last year, I volunteered at St Ives food bank. Shocking. 70% of users were in work. In half of those, both adults were working. And 20,000 on the social housing list in Cornwall. There is something rotten in the kingdom of Kernow.

@@jodicross439 My mother and grandmother 12A and 14 Island Road took in B&B; people came back year after year and they had a wonderful time on the beaches etc. However, in the last 30 years or so second homes have hollowed out the town and the community. Some will say that there is still a community there but when I lived in Island Road - 30 houses between Island Road and Burrow Road opposite, all were lived in by St Ives people (family ties back 100's years) and it was the same in all the rows. What makes me sad is that the childhood that I had will not be shared by children anymore; mine grew up on the outskirts of the town. No go area for me now in the height of the season!

Hi sorry about the delay we were on a day out yesterday so have only just got around to replying. I would say if you can go when kids are in school then definitely take advantage of that as everything is always nicer when it's less busy. September is a great time to go but just like July we really can't depend on the weather so it's always a risk but definitely one of the best times to go. If you are taking your car find an accomodation that has a set parking spot as parking is really hard so if you have your own space then you don't need to worry. We were on the outskirts of st Ives with a 5 minute walk to the harbor which was perfect for us, we loved being near to Porthminster beach which made our hoilday. Take advantage of the public transport, the train station next to Porthminster is only £1 to get to carbis bay (the next beach along) and it is stunning and is a must to visit. Porthkidney beach is also amazing. For days out as shown in this video we visited paradise Park which was lovely for kids and we really enjoyed that, and the Minack Theatre and porthcurno is so beautiful but could be hard work with young children. But definitely take time just to explore St Ives and enjoy the beaches and let the kids play in the sand and the shallow waters. Porthminster really was our favorite and the calm harbour sea. But be warned everything is up and down hills so can be quite walking sometimes. And make sure to watch a sunset on porthmeor beach one evening 😊

@Fidel-tk5rq hi, I'm not sure if I would recommend the 10 hour drive, only because the drive could end up taking a lot longer with traffic and stops. I get motion sickness but I never get it on a train so I personally couldn't go by car. But obviously it's a very beautiful place and if you don't mind the drive then it's definitely worth it. But unfortunately it comes down to personal preference so I couldn't answer if it's worth it or not. Have you thought about flying? There is an airport in newquay and then a train to st Ives from there.
