After all, it's not so much the problem with the actual order of the Mass as it is with the people who choose to not follow the rubrics... As Cardinal Arinze says, there were plenty of liturgical abuses before the Novus Ordo too, but no one would catch them, either because they did not know Latin or because they could not hear what the priest was saying.

I love this. It makes me laugh. I don't feel as though it is making fun of the Christmas mass but instead it is making the stereotypes that are present in most catholic churches more visible. As a catholic who attends mass religiously (hehe) I was able to find a person from my church to fit for every stereotype, none of which are negative. I'm proud that it was our church to have been chosen to joke about with instead of a christian church or other type just because it shows how universal the church is. It is also showing the people who are CEO catholics (christmas easter only) what they miss out on during every mass of the year. Im entirely not offended. God bless and merry Christmas. This was a great sketch! As a Catholic who has experienced everything from vibrant, "with-it" communities, really boring communities, and everything in between, I was lol-ing at all the little nuances they pointed out that make going to Mass fun, funny, spiritual, annoying sometimes, but fulfilling thing every Sunday to be a part of. Funny thing is, some of the comments at the bottom were more offensive than the actual sketch itself. For those who have posted how they dislike the the current version of the Mass, and prefer the Tridentine: Please don't hate on the new missal. It may not be your cup of tea, but the Tridentine Mass isn't everyone's cup of tea either. Personally, I love the Mass no matter which version of liturgy I experience. I've experienced the current and previous Roman Missal, Tridentine, Divine LIturgy of St. John Chrysostom. All of them are beautiful in their own way. As someone who grew up in the 90's and 2000s, where the World Youth Day and the New Evangelization started up, we appreciated and loved the modern Mass, and the fact that we were allowed to have more flexibility as to what kind of music we could use. Music that was not part of the classic hymnal repertoire and was more contemporary connected to us, and helped us to get into deeper contemplation with God. After that, many of us were able to research, appreciate, and love the Tridentine Mass, the Latin text, etc. The flexibility of the Church since Vatican II to allow things like the language of the land to be used, flexibility in who could be altar servers, readers, musicians, and the music that could be used, I believe, has retained parishioners, and grew the church to include the new generation of Catholics, without sacrificing the integrity of worship. It got me interested in keeping me willing to go to Mass every Sunday at University of Toronto's Newman Center and participate as a music minister at the youth/contemporary music Mass. It continues to be one of the best attended masses in Toronto, with the great priests, current Christian music, and vibrant parishioners. All people, young and old, love attending that liturgy. And this is why I continue to attend, because it is inspiring to see how the people are really connecting to God in a very deep way. I know everyone may not agree with me, and I know there are Traditionalist Catholics (Mel Gibson type) that disagree wholeheartedly with post-Vatican II Catholics such as myself, but please don't be hating on us, and neither should you be hating on the way we celebrate our liturgy. In the end, we are all playing on the same team.

(the Trinity) It's also the encounter with the Trinity in hearing the Word of God revealed to our ancestors in faith, and being able to live his passion, to touch and receive Jesus in the Eucharist, which a practicing Catholic believes that while the bread and wine stay scientifically unchanged, it becomes the True Body and Blood of Christ. That's why I love the Mass, in its many forms. Again, if you don't believe in any of this, then it'll make no sense to you, but if you look at it from my point of view, maybe it'll make a bit more sense.

This sketch reflects my church at Xmas. The pastor singing in varying speeds is the most accurate. And the pastor joke (I remember hearing in a homily once about the baby Jesus showing up at Mary's room holding a baseball bat. We were DYING.) And the O Come All Ye Faithful part!! I call my pastor "Pastor Pat" due to this sketch, even if that's not his actual name. I've told various folks at school and the 18-21 program I went to that my pastor's name is Pat. Thanks alot, SNL!!
