« If you're with me, I'll go with joy » is a aria from Gottfried Heinrich Stölzels Opera Diomedes, which premiered in 1718. The « Aria » is known as « Bist du bei mir » (BWV 508), a version for voice and continuo, which can be found as No. 25 in the 1725 music booklet for Anna Magdalena Bach. Stölzel and Bach were in the same places at different times and shared knowledge, but whether they met in person can only be assumed. The Bach family copied dozens of Stölzel pieces in their public and private musical practices with or without Stölzel's approval. History will tell according to the research of musicologists. This composition will be orchestrated later by Thomas Frost. This partition will be found at the kyiv Conservatory in the year 2000. *Lucien* Aria: « If you are with me, I will go with joy die and rest. Written by German composer Gottfried Heinrich Stölzel around 1716. Bach loved it, wrote it down for his students and scholars accidentally attributed it to him for ages.

Yes, something I found disappointing when I first discovered. But it is very beautifully intelligent and athletically fragile, like Bach. He certainly wrote such equally exquisite gems, and is as worthy of this composition and as Handel is of "Dank sei dir, Herr," actually composed by Siegfried Ochs, but attributed to Handel for two centuries! We are so lucky for the German gift of heavenly music.

It's beautifully played, but for my taste with too much emphasis on the embellishments. This is a simple love song, from the Baroque period, of gratitude, trust in one's love (husband or wife), and faith in God. Sometimes less is more, and in this case, my preference is for a more restraint approach which allows even more capacity of emotions and feelings to be experienced by the listener.
