The sane, and fastest route, to do this is St Margaret's to Vauxhall, Victoria Line to Tottenham Hale, then Tottenham Hale to St Margaret's. I do this route regularly - well, starting at Hertford East where I now live back to St Margaret's (London) where I spent my childhood or to Twickenham for the rugby. 90 minutes maximum.

The fastest route is the Victoria line from Vauxhall to Tottenham Hale. The cheapest route is the Overground from Richmond to Hackney. My route is District line Richmond to Barons Court, Piccadilly line to Bounds Green, Great Northern Bowes Park to Hertford North, Greater Anglia from Hertford East.
@ccityplanner12172 ай бұрын
St Margarets gets a really raw deal for frequency. In 1950 it had 6tph, before covid it had 4 & now it has 2 with 2 additional in the peaks. Very few stations in London are served this infrequently, and the only stations in zone 4 with less service are the two Chiltern Railways Sudbury stations. My dad lives in Amyand Park (you would've walked past his house) & the neighbourhood is sick of how SWR have handled their station. When arriving from Waterloo, having to go upstairs to the ticket office & walk down the hill because there is no exit on Amyand Park Road adds 4 minutes to everyone's commute home in the evening & means that to be anywhere near the exit, they have to cram themselves into the back, which is always the busiest part of the train. A few years back, the Lib Dem candidate for the council made a manifesto pledge to get Network Rail to create a new entrance to platform 3 opposite the Baptist chapel (which in Germany, France, Norway, the Czech Republic or any other sensible country, this station would have). SWR reacted by installing an electric gate that in principle, passengers requiring step-free access could use, to take away that argument from us. However, it doesn't have an Oyster reader, so disabled passengers cannot pay by Oyster or contactless because the only readers are in the ticket office, which does not have step-free access. Furthermore, the gate has been out of order for repairs more than it has actually worked (which nobody notices because it's not as if and "all of the lifts at St Margarets are currently out of service" announcement would fit in this case). For good measure, they also installed ticket barriers & downgraded the station to an unstaffed halt, with the barriers being manned by a minimum-wage agency worker who changes from week to week. This also meant that the waiting room at the station was permanently locked for several years. Basically, they turned our station into a Northern station.
@FridayRosesTwitch2 ай бұрын
As another St Ms local, you have hit the nail on the head, i used to get the train every day from st margarets into london, knew the station manager very well and always had wonderful conversation and then they of course decided to fuck it all up. It's genuinely ridiculous how the station has been treated, I was so annoyed when they put the barriers in instead of investing in something like lifts because the station is so inaccessible. The two train's an hour reduction has genuinely been so ridiculous, also because they're never quite the same times (it used to be on the hour and then every fifteen minutes from then and now i always have to double check when the train it). The only good thing is that twickenham is still relatively close and i often find that the extra 15 minute walk is sometimes just easier.
@NooticusАй бұрын
You’ve completely forgotten the raw deal we have gotten off-peak on the Northern City Line services out of Moorgate. In the off-peak, all the local stations between Alexandra Palace and Potters Bar and between Alexandra Palace and Crews Hill (and beyond) also only have 2tph.

If you play Hellfire 3, you'll be familiar with how going from 1 terminal to another is 20 minutes. In all other cases, if you walk between stations, it actually takes less time than the estimate (because the player character in Hellfire 3 is 18 years old) but in London it often takes slightly longer because the 1980s tube often gets delayed.
