St. Martin's Point Fog Horn, Guernsey

The St. Martin's Point signal station blasting off it's fog horn on a foggy day. If you go down to it when the fog horn is going you will need ear plugs because it is extremely loud. It's position is 49"25.30'N 002"31.30'W and it is situated at the bottom of the cliff, below Jerbourg car park, in St. Martin's, Guernsey in the Channel Islands and is an aid to navigation at sea.
You can get to it by walking down the cliff path from Jerbourg car park which involves going down about 250 steps or a flatter but longer walk from the path by L'auberge Divette Restaurant.
The fog horn sounds three times every 30 seconds. There is a split white and red light on top of the roof which flashes 3 times every 10 seconds and can be seen up to 14 miles away. If you are at sea and you see the white light you are safe to continue, but if you can see the red light you will soon be hitting rocks.
The post with LP on the top is Longue Pierre rocks, some dangerous rocks which are exposed at low tides and have a very strong tidal flow around them on spring tides.

I was born in Guernsey and lived there till I was around 10 years old, for some reason I vividly remember hearing this sound eminating over the island on foggy nights. For me it's one of those memories you never forget.

we have dear family that live in Guernsey and it is such a beautiful island and with great history - it's wonderful and I love going there.

500 hz emitter, seen a video of St Peter Port in the fog, the harbour foghorn ( 300 hz emitter sounds like 1 blast every 15 seconds) and you can hear this horn too. Whilst sadly Trinity House are turning off or reducing foghorns, the Port Authority plan to keep St Martins Point, the harbour and Platte Fougere beeping away in the fogs around Guernsey for sure.

If they take away the lighthouses and the foghorns, surely that'll mean more accidents, like we had before they came on the scene, won't it?

E.J. Thomas They are downsizing the intensity of the lights and using LED instead of the fresnels in some lighthouses and some foghorns are being discontinued or also reduced in mileage to half mile types, due to the use of GPS that ships have today, but I saw that the port authority of Guernsey wants to keep this horn active along with the harbour and platte fougere. TH are just cost cutting.
