Led by Educators Tanya Vick, Marina Summers, Andrew Wilson, and Erin Watters, St. Michael School in Fitzroy Harbour partnered with The Ottawa Riverkeeper and Indigenous knowledge keeper Albert Dumont. Students learned about the importance of preserving the waterways and honouring Indigenous traditions. The school, backing onto the Ottawa River, is dedicated to environmental education, demonstrated as they organize a massive water bank cleanup at Fitzroy Provincial Park, alongside insightful workshops led by the Ottawa Riverkeeper and Albert Dumont. The students participating in the OCSB Social Entrepreneurial Program (SEP) also launched the Akiwan Guardian (It is the Earth) company. Through the sale of their products, they aim to support organizations like the Ottawa Riverkeeper and other Indigenous groups.
