I like Evan's observations at 2:09 addressed to Scott. 'You always pissed more than you drank. You couldn't find you way through a garden gate'. Too bad he didn't make them earlier. Scott was turned into a legend, but he got everything wrong and lost more men in one trip than the 'Norskies' lost in 30 years.

They used Evans' skis as a grave marker when they could have given them to Bowers who was the only man who didn't have skis. It would have allowed them all to progress at a faster rate and just might have made the difference between death and survival. If this actually happened, which I doubt, it was an insane decision to leave the skis behind.

Birdie had recovered his depoted skis by the time they'd reached the Beardmore I think?

@@lidondyte477 Expedition maps show that Evans died on February 17, 1912 at the base of the Beardmore Glacier just as Scott's team made it back to the Ross Ice Shelf. So the skis must have been left behind much earlier on the trek to the pole.

James Collinson I'm fairly sure they were depoted on the plateau

Great! For an apt tribute to Scott, you could maybe have a look at 'kcazyt birdie, the doctor and me'

When Evans died, they should have eaten him. Amundsen would have.

They probably thought it would be a mortal sin though. It was the early 20th century after all.

1:36 He is doing HAL 9000, Stanley Kubrick, gave him one of his first acting jobs. Remember the big German soldier with the flying wing in Raiders Of The Lost Ark? That's him too.

Were they Evan's skis as a cross - really??

It is a malicious portrayal of Scott by Martin Shaw based on the vitriolic book 'Scott and Amundsen' by Roland Huntsford. Amundsen was a great explorer whereas Scott wasn't. However, this production is so biased against Scott, that a chance to clarify and inform about a chapter in Polar history is lost.

I don't think it's right to blame Shaw for how Scott is portrayed, as he was an actor doing as he was told. Actors are directed to portray characters in certain ways, and they have to comply with that; it's what they're paid to do. I'm an actor myself, and have learned that through experiences in the theatre.
