Another look at St Patrick's Barracks ... This time Filmed and Encoded in 4K a little Smoother and covering the housing estate this time too..
The site was requisitioned by the War Office and the barracks were put into use as the depot of the Royal Ulster Rifles, who had relocated from Victoria Barracks, as soon as they opened in 1937.[1] The barracks were used by the United States Army during the Second World War.[2] The barracks reverted to use as depot of the Royal Ulster Rifles after the War and became the regional centre for infantry training as the North Irish Brigade Depôt in 1964.[3] The barracks went on to be the home of the Royal Irish Rangers when it was formed in 1968 and of the Royal Irish Regiment when it was formed in 1992.[4]
The barracks were closed in 2008 and the Imjin River Memorial, which had been located at the barracks, was moved to Belfast City Hall: the memorial commemorates Irish troops lost in the Battle of Chaegunghyon in January 1951 during the Korean War.[5][6]
The site was given to the Northern Ireland Executive in 2012[7] and housing refurbishment was carried out.[8] The site was the home of the Royal Irish Regiment Museum until it closed.[9] Plans for a road link to the east of the site appeared in the planning submissions to Mid and East Antrim Council in November 2017

I served at St Patrick’s Barracks , bashed that Square for hundreds of hours, many grand memories and met some very fine people. Sorry to see it in such state however. So passes our history.

I was in Rhine Platoon when I was there in 1985. Brings back memories.

I don't remember u either but names I do include Underwood, Hoy, Meil, Edwards, Atkinson, Rice, Edwards, watts and Andrews. Alan Davidson was the platoon Sargent.

it was Oct and i Just found the 2nd day forming up Photo, you went the PVR route soon after joining And the other coloured guy ended up in the same Battalion as myself and it wasn't you.

@@tonyocarroll6317 I miss the sound of gunfire comming from here on a saturday afternoon and the bands practicing and the Royal helicopters that often visited.It's very sad it's gone.And we in Ballymena are very grateful for what you did for our country.

Theres was fella once I came across in the ECOS years ago, out flying his drone. One day I'll try and do the whole set up myself. With them doing up that housing estate a few years ago, can you now get to the "barracks ruins" freely ?

It's still gated off but as far as i know it has nothing to do with the army anymore so you might be able to get in around it without getting in any serious trouble.But i don't know of any ways in.
