Thanks Stuart. As I said I did this in 2008. My sister sold it in 2011, much improved from what it was when she bought it in 2006. A great little piece of Cornish history. Cheers, Tony

ah thanx Tony we must have viewed in 2006 then ...my memory with numbers is not good .Your Sister did great stuff with the property .Such love and attention to detail .Were you or her aware of the supposed ghost there and the story of a Monk buried in the garden ,near the rockery I think . All the best, Stuart . ( Would love to hear more about this very special house if you dont mind too much )

Stuart Dow Stuart, the ghost was apparent when I was there. It was supposedly of a monk that hanged himself from one of the rafters in a room adjoining the central hallway. One day I was alone and expecting workmen. I left the front door open for them (as one does in Trethevy). When they came the door was locked and bolted, impossible to have happened with wind etc. I also sensed the ghost on other occasions, a benign ghost I might add. I'm a sceptic about all these things, so I'm not an easy convert. There's a Roman mile post in the kitchen garden which is in the film. It's since been moved I believe, as many passing hikers wanted to view it, so it was made more accessible. The main stairs are a challenge to negotiate, they're huge. (Esp. after a sherbet or two). The ledge in the bathroom is a monk's penance bed. The main living room and matching upstairs bedrooms are a Victorian addition. I'll see if my sister is interested in answering more questions. She 'lived' that house, mostly on her own for years. Thanks for being interested. Tony...

Tony ,thank you so much for your time and information .......isn't the internet a useful thing sometimes ! We lived in London when we viewed the house .(had close friends in Tintagel ) and intended moving down . Well eventually I prized us away from Crystal Palace and after nearly buying a very similar building ,a farmhouse , near Launceston we moved in to a wonderful 1831/1960rebuild section cottage with land by the Inny River near Woodabridge .We love our retirement here and still visit St Nectans Kieve and all around the N Cornwall coast and moors . Thanks again for your fantastic vid and taking the time to reply ........Stuart

I loved watching this video it was very interesting. My family used to live there. When I was little my Grandma told me about the ghost. But it was a slightly different story to yours. She said that the family who lived there previous to hers had a son who needed special care. The story goes that he was locked up in the house in a room upstairs during the day and then at night he was let out of his room to roam the house freely. She then went on to say that every now and again she would hear chains rattling at night. Which she presumed to be the ghost walking around shackled still in chains. I used to think it was a very sad story but at the time it was better than sending someone to an insane asylum.

Thanks. I knew about the guy who lived with his mother. He was a bit of a tear-away. He used to go out but he chose to stay in a lot. My sister would know better than I what went on. His mother was an eccentric as well.
