St Stithians College Founders' Day Highlights 2019

FOUNDERS’ DAY 2019
The chosen theme as we gathered for Founders’ Day 2019 on a crisp and clear Highveld morning was ‘South African Drum Beats’. In the words of our Rector, Dr Tim Nuttall and Acting Rector Celeste Gilardi, “We seek to be a college of schools which quickens the pulse of our nation, creates a positive rhythm, releases energy and passion and reflects deeply on our purpose to educate young people, each with distinctive talents”.
Founders’ Day is certainly one of the most important dates on the St Stithians annual calendar, providing a wonderful opportunity for our gathered community of students, staff, parents, alumni and friends of the College to affirm and celebrate our collective character; and to reflect on our continuing journey of transformation as a South African and African school. Our Founders’ Day Service of Celebration and Thanksgiving highlights our core values, gives thanks to our founders and all who have created the legacy of St Stithians that we cherish today.
The musical items, prayers and speeches all expressed aspects of ‘South African Drum Beats’, allowing the gathering to:
‘Hear the heartbeat of Africa,
Feel the heartbeat of Africa,
Be the heartbeat of Africa.’
Music is always central to Founders’ Day and this year’s ‘South African Drum Beats’ theme brought some South African favourites to the fore. The Junior Prep performed a beautiful rendition of SOLOKO by Bongeziwe Mabandla and David Scott, with music arrangement by Taryn Harrington and led by Music Director, Linda Glass. The whole school musical item was an energetic and powerful performance of DRIVE by DJ Black Coffee and David Guetta with the orchestral arrangement by Peter Mclea and the Marimba arrangement by Mike Sibanda, led by Taryn Harrington. Our inspiring guest speaker for 2019 was Mr Themba Ntuli who received a standing ovation for his address.
