ST1100 radiator cap, coolant fill location

I replaced my thermo switch on my 2002 st1100 and my fan still wasn’t turning on. Topping off with coolant at the radiator cap worked for me. That metal radiator cap was super awful to get to. Now my bike no longer overheats. Thank you for pointing out where that cap was.

Great video! I just popped a coolant hose on my 97 and caught a face full of coolant. I watched your video will sitting in a parking lot waiting for the bike to cool down so I can limp home. But at least now I know what to do when I get there. Thanks!

Thanks SLT, I would think that the overflow bottle would pull coolant to the radiator if it got low but your video is good to have again Thanks, great job.

Max1Chase1 that is just an overflow tank, not the fill. if your radiator is low enough or the line going between your radiator and the overflow tank is loose and not pulling a good vacuum you can constantly have a full overflow tank and an empty radiator

Workshop manual states to fill it up in the bottle NOT radiator cap!

Uhm, yeah. I found out I could access the radiator cap from the bottom. However, my question is. What cruise control do you use?

I just top up from the expansion bottle to much trouble taking off all that fairing

potcheen on the road ☘ that only works if you are topping it off. But if your hose from the radiator to the expansion tank is not sealing correctly you can be running low in your motorcycle. If you have any kind of leak at all and too much air in the system it will not fill up the radiator.
