SPAR’s have been abandoned in favor of the MPSS style of semisubmersible. On the Argos project alone >$10 billion was saved. Smarter designs include a shipyard friendly approach, rolled steel is NOT shipyard friendly.

Any cost projections for supporting, say, a 15 MW turbine including moorings in say 60M? I know BP swapped a SPAR idea for a semisubmersible in the GOM and saved $11 Billion on a $20 billion project. I worry that the industry is just making the same mistakes the Oil Industry did in the past. I can't remember many ships that were built with Tubes and most still stay away from bending anything as much as possible.

Interesting video, well presented. Have you heard of DNV - you may want to check out positions as they we are expanding in this field - Our ETO predicts close to 300 GW of floating wind installed by 2050

Stability of a “floating” object does not related to position of of centre of buoyancy. In fact, it depend on position of centre of gravity and metacenter position.
@ikjaelee44242 жыл бұрын
Definitely. BUT, we have to calculate first the center of buoyancy in order to obtain the "metacenter". Well-known intact stability formula: GM = KB + BM - KG; G: center of gravity, B: center of buoyancy; M: metacenter

Moreover, all of terms above are calculated by direct hydrostatic pressure integration over the wetted surface and distributed gravitation body force over the entire volume of the floating structure.
