If you are using the back of the flannel shirt to make pieces for quilt blocks, would you need still need to use stabilizer? I’ve been planning a quilt where the main focal point would be to cut the front of the shirt exactly as you did with the buttons and both side pockets. But I want to incorporate other pieces of the shirt into the quilt as well. I have found this video extremely useful. I stumbled upon it. I’m glad I did. Thank you so much!

I wish I had found your channel sooner. I'm working on my first ever quilt and it's with my son's baby/toddler clothes. I already cut apart 2 of his flannels and never even thought it would be possible to use the whole front for a quilt block. I'm going to try this method for the last 2 flannels. Thanks for the video!

I cut my sleeves a little close to the shirt and use the fabric from the sleeves to make the border of the memory quilt.

That's such a great idea and useful way to use up all the parts of the shirt :)

Love your ideas! You have a very nice sewing set up! New to sewing but love the creativity I try to push myself to see what I can do and loving those T-shirt quilts, thinking of doing one when my son leaves for Military
@TheQuiltmakerHomestead6 жыл бұрын
I think your son would just love that! I've done a lot of traditional patchwork quilts for people....but have NEVER gotten the same reaction as when someone picks up their t-shirt quilt!! I guess it's all of the personal memories involved....makes it so special!

If you cut a piece of that rubbery shelf liner (I can't remember what the name of it is) that you buy in a roll that looks like mesh smaller than your ruler and lay it between the shirt and the ruler, when you go to cut the material it won't slip because of the buttons. I use this a lot to keep my ruler from slipping.

I have another question I’m running into. Men’s 3 or 4 button down knit shirts. I try to get a couple of buttons in there but where you cut the top of those seams are so thick on men’s shirts is there any way to reduce that thickness?

Why the need to stabilize? What would happen if you just quilted it without?

New blade needed?. How would treat including the neckline/ collar, too?
@TheQuiltmakerHomestead5 жыл бұрын
I'm guilty of using blades wayyy beyond their "normal" life expectancy hahaaa. I have a few videos on my channel that may show what you are looking for.....I show one method for filling in empty space of a neckline, that may be helpful.

Lisa, we have talked before but I just ran into a new problem. A client brought a sweatshirt that zips up from the chest to the neck! How do I cut this with a zipper in it?
@TheQuiltmakerHomestead4 жыл бұрын
Stabilize both sides of the zipper with your iron, right up to the zipper. When cutting your block to size, use rotary cutter all the way around and when you get close to the zipper stop, and use a heavy duty pair of scissors to cut the zipper. When stitching this block, do not use your foot pedal over the zipper. Stop close to the zipper and hand crank your needle through the zipper.

Is there a particular kind of stabilizer you should use for quilting? Some are much stiffer than others...
@TheQuiltmakerHomestead5 жыл бұрын
My most favorite is Pellon P44F....it is super light weight and not stiff at all :)
@laurahyde55667 жыл бұрын
What stabilizer do you use for these quilts? What I've used in the past always made shirts too stiff.
@TheQuiltmakerHomestead7 жыл бұрын
Laura Hyde. Pellon P44 basic fusible interfacing, not stiff at all :) you can find this at Joann's

How do I add baby clothes to a quilt
@TheQuiltmakerHomestead6 жыл бұрын
Hi Brenda, you can treat the clothing just like applique, like I do in this video here:kzbin.info/www/bejne/rYumpHqedrlqlaejr....you can cut small blocks from the clothing as well and piece them together
