Does the "ugliest" maneuver in surfing actually work? We talked to a physicist to get to the bottom of it. Then we sent out Harry Bryant and Dylan Graves to put the information gathered to the test. So does it work?

Hopping on a short board is literally the pre-hydrofoil surfboard days, until someone decided to put a pole with a fin on it. I'm pretty sure in the 1900s the Boating guys already figured that out.

After surfing almost 40 years at the HB pier I can say it depends on who is doing the hop - Bud Llamas, Colby Outlaw, Robert August, Carl Hayward.... yes. Joe Blow from Buena Park not so much.

If your 2nd hop is not an air your riding one foot on the gas and one on the break.rail to rail gives you more speed the board is designed to go rail to rail

the board is not designed to generate speed rail to rail, the hop is the same thing hydrofoils do but on the water instead of under
