There is 1 more upgrade that he should have performed. The factory hubs are ok at best but once you start driving your Firebird or Camaro like a madman, the hubs are gonna wear out fast. You need to order up a pair of C5 SKF X-Tracker Hubs from Detroit Speed. Make sure you get the SKF 4th Gen F-Body Hubs that come with the ABS Connector that will need to be re-pinned which is very easy with just a paper clip. The instructions are very easy to read and understand. While your on the phone or on Detroit Speeds website, I would order up their complete 98-02 LS1 Steering Rack especially if the stock rack is leaking power steering fluid like most do now with how old these cars are getting...

I've actually broken two stock style hubs. At that point t it's only the caliper bracket keeping the tire on the car. Second time was at Watkins Glen. Coming through the SS's the car is heavily loaded on the left, I hear a "klick" noise. I coast into a run off area at the end of the back straight to wait for the session to end. Sure enough it was completed broken off. I changed them regularly and always carried a spare. With a Strano adapter to use C5 bearing mentioned haven't had a problem for many years.

Great to see the big brake and awesome wheel/package!!! Just an FYI for viewers, stock brake components with high performance brake pads, stainless braided brake line s and a Strano master cylinder brace are up to any street or autocross use. For road racing Motul 600 brake fluid, Porterfield race pads and brake ducts work great. Don't get me wrong I'd prefer the $5k brake kit! Thanks for video!!! Really helpful to see exactly how to remove the axles. I haven't done it yet but will be doing bearings soon

The 4th gen f-body will fit 315/30-18 on all 4 corners. I'm currently running 315/30-18 rear and 295/35-18 front on my 98 trans am. The front tires are being upgraded to 315s. The car is lowered on a strano autocross suspension with no rub. The wheels are corvette 18x10.5 front and rear.

@peterwittman6682 Thanks for chiming in. What wheels and offsets are you using and what tires did you go with? I'm running 315 35 17 on the rear with ZR1 replica 17 inch wheels. I have 275's on the front. The ZR1 wheel doesn't fit the front on my car. With 275's the car understeers and as the fronts start to overheat it understeer alot. Tires are Nitto R888R. I've had several LS powered vehicles and 4 4th Gen F Bodies that either had a 402ci LS2, turbocharged 408, full bolt on with heads and cam LS1, and just a full bolt on. I absolutely LOVE these cars but you really should do some heads, cam, intake, headers, exhaust. Or better yet throw all those parts on a LS3 bottom end.

The single most important suspension upgrade on those cars is sub-frame connectors. How those got overlooked is CRAZY!

Stacy as always great content ... i now I will get flack for says this ... but as a 4th gen owner myself throwing 20k worth of parts is crazy for this platform when you can use the money to step up to a new platform with all this stuff already in place ... becuase yes these parts will make the car handle better but company's like this give the illusion that is will bring this car up modern standards from its live axle setup. Yes I am betting this was a sponsored car to sell products. When there are so many cheaper alternatives to set up these cars .. where I wished you would have explored..

How did you fit 315s in the rear without tubbing wheel well and rolling the fenders? Those tires are gonna rub hard at that width! Love the build tho 😃
@harryyambag87612 жыл бұрын
It's actually a very common size upgrade in the 4th Gen community. I did it on mine as well. A few people have said they've noticed a slight rubbing in the inner wheel well but only needed to hit it with a hammer a few times for the extra clearance. Def no tubing required although some have also rolled their fenders. I myself haven't had any issues with mine. No hammer or rolling fenders needed
@markovich36052 жыл бұрын
@@harryyambag8761 Interesting 🤔 I wonder if some fbodies are different than others. I want to get 315s, but the normal 275s already seem like a tight fit on my '96. I like the look of the 315s in the rear.
@harryyambag87612 жыл бұрын
@@markovich3605 not sure if the lt1s were any different but I don't think they were. I think it comes down to any suspension mods and the tires themselves. Even though they might be the same size, there are def some that are wider than the others. I always noticed it most going from nittos to bf Goodrich drag radials. The nittos have a slimmer profile for whatever reason.
@MG-bm5mk2 жыл бұрын
@Mark Yurkovich, I have also read and heard that TA's have wider fenders than Camaros, but regardless, 315s are a very common fitment for fbodies...

Good question! We'll probably talk more about this in a podcast, but it all depends on your skill level and tool selection. Since the engines in these cars almost have to come out from below, it would be MUCH easier with a lift. From there, I would do lots of research on how much of the ECU can work with the LS1. It might be more work than it's worth. - Gearz Team

Speaking of 4th gen F-body's and Holley Retrobrite lights, why don't you use your connections with your Holley sponsors to help out us 93-97 Camaro owners? The only bolt-in option for headlights is another sealed beam housing and weak halogen bulb that cannot be replaced separately. They're a simple rectangle. Should be pretty easy to replicate. While they're at it make some for 4th gen Pontiacs and all tue 3rd gens and 4 eye Fox Body Mustangs.

Road-course "style" suspension. Style being the operative word. Only the UMI RR kmember has reinforced gussets for serious road course duty. Panhandle bar with the adjuster in the middle is another undesirable design. Drilled rotors, a bling product. Nice selection on Forgeline though.
