Nancy sang the lead in a very popular song of theirs called These Dreams. As siblings, their voices are similar. That's what makes their harmonies so good. That characteristic is called "blood harmony". Interestingly, Nancy had a cold on the day that These Dreams was recorded. It gave her voice a bit of grit. Some people think that her cold actually made the song a bigger hit. Also, Nancy loved acoustic guitar. If you want a display of how good she actually is on acoustic, try the live performance of Crazy On You. She has a lengthy and amazing solo guitar intro on that one.
@woodrowsmith340010 ай бұрын
There is a video from '77 for Crazy on You that features Nancy on an acoustic guitar where she plays an 'acapella' (if you would) opening that lasts a couple of minutes. Just breathtaking. This became a #1 song for Ann and Heart. Within a year (+/-...I don't remember which came first...sorry) Nancy sang lead on These Dreams which also became a #1 hit for Heart. Ann's voice is the focus of the band, but Nancy is no slouch. Both play multiple instruments, although Nancy is a one man ..err, woman band. Keyboards, acoustic and electric guitars, mandolin... wouldn't surprise me if she hip-checked Vinny off the throne (the name for a drummer's seat) and took over there for a song or two. Both amazing women...so much so that until I started watching these reactions I never in my wildest dreams considered Heart to by a 'gurl band', just an all-around damn fine band.

You cant help but feel it. It still absolutely rips your heart out. Its a staggering vocal, it really is. And when its just Ann's voice.... my god, I've been going to gigs for nearly 50 years and I've never heard anyone like her. This has become such a huge song that means so much to so many people...

As others have mentioned, "These Dreams" with Nancy on lead vocals is another great one and was their first #1 hit ("Alone" was their 2nd). Heart had basically two careers. The first one was from the mid 70's to the early 80's. They were a fairly big band with several hits during this period and wrote their own music. After a few years were they fell off the charts, they came back with just the two sister's and maybe the drummer for a bit. The record company sexxxed their look up and they no longer wrote their own songs but had professional write them for them. They went from rock and folk type of music to rock and power ballads. And they became bigger than they ever were and one of the biggest rock bands on the planet for about 5 years. From the mid 80's until the early 90's. This song is from that second period. They have an excellent live performance from Seattle. I think in the early 2000's, you might want to check out. Nancy is an EXCELLENT guitar player but she dosn't play lead. Thats just phoniness the record company did in the video to spice it up. If you look, you see a man playing the lead but then they try to make it look like Nancy is doing it. This is NOT Hearts fault. 100% the record company making them do it and dress like this. In their bio, the sisters explained a lot of this. They are much more hippies than sex pots in real life. Oh, the Zeppelin performance was more like 20 years after this. Not 40.

Ann Wilson is one of my top three favorite vocalists of all time, period. Her voice is iconic! Nancy Wilson is a legendary guitarist, and her harmonies singing with her sister are sublime. But, Nancy actually sings lead on the song "These Dreams," which is a lighter pop ballad, but one of my favorite Heart songs, along with "Alone." Nancy's vocal style is a bit softer and thinner than her sister's, but still gorgeous. (Fun fact: The day she recorded her vocals, Nancy had come down with a bit of a cold, so her voice was more raspy than usual, which the producers actually loved! When she eventually got better, the producers were actually disappointed that she couldn't replicate the raspy tone, and as a joke, they asked if she could please catch another cold ASAP, haha.) Ann sings harmonies and background "echo phrases" on "These Dreams." (The music video is a bit confusing, because it shows Ann lip-syncing some of the lead vocals, even though Nancy is the only lead singer on the recording. I've never understood why the video does this.) A few more Heart songs that are essential listens: "Crazy On You," "Barracuda," "Magic Man," "Straight On," "Never," "What About Love," and "All I Wanna Do Is Make Love to You." I'll stop there, but (of course) there are more songs that I can't think of off the top of my head, haha. This was a great reaction, and I just subscribed to your channel. Bravo!

Ann & Nancy Wilson (Heart) are Rock and Roll Hall of Famers. They excelled both as recording artists and live performers. In fact, they are so great live that they had a greatest hits album derived strictly from live performances. A lot of bands and solo artists do not hold that distinction. I prefer listening to the studio recordings first before the live versions. But in the case of Heart, you definitely cannot go wrong either way.

Great choice for a reaction to an original Heart song! Glad you are discovering what an incredibly talented band this was, especially in the early days when they had their original line-up of members. I've seen them live several times, and their concerts were awesome. One thing I'd like to mention is that when you said "Nancy's guitar solo', it was actually guitarist Howard Leese playing the solo. But the video suggests it was Nancy, so it's easy to see why many people get that wrong. Nancy herself is an excellent guitarist in her own right, and you can hear an acoustic solo from her on live versions of the song 'Crazy On You'. Thanks for reacting to this song and please continue your Heart journey. You won't regret it!

The big hair power band days were definitely the most fan-building time for heart but the earlier days before they could throw huge money at production value were better IMHO. As others have said, try their breakout song "Crazy on You." And note that the early costuming in that sort of medieval princess/ renaissance fair style which you may see them wearing on the early stuff was actually a "thing" in the early 70's which a LOT of bands and musicians played into: a little slice of information which helps explain what you hear and see in many bands of the era.

There is a young pair of ladies from Northern Ireland called Dea Matrona whose harmonies have had some people call them a modern day Heart. Now, I don't like to make those comparisons but Dea Matrona are influenced by 60s, 70s and 80s rock, both electric and acoustic. While not sisters (although Mollie's sister was in the band as their drummer until last year) they both have great voices and they also both play guitar and bass and often surprise people when they see the ladies swapping instruments in between songs. My recommendations for Dea Matrona songs are Glory Glory or covers Homeward Bound, Helplessly Hoping or Mandinka for acoustic songs. For electric So Damn Dangerous, Get My Mind Off or Red Button. Electric covers I'd recommend are Oh Well, Crossroads, Cradle Rock or Gloria. Just in case you want to check out some current, rising band.

I think Nancy Wilson's "These Dreams" rank as one of the best songs of 1985. Watch the MTV.

Nancy Wilson was one of my very first boyhood crushes when I was young. Heart's videos on MTV back in the day showed me what kind of girlfriend I hoped I would find. 🙂 Neat side note, but Nancy composed the soundtrack to the movie Almost Famous. She was married to the director at the time. There is a really short but beautiful acoustic guitar piece used a couple of times that brings out some emotion. Anne and Nancy are just legendary in the world of rock music. So thankful for finding them at a young age. *Edit* Note to self, I will refrain from making comments until finishing the ENTIRE video. Ooops. I just heard your comment about being curious about Nancy Wilson singing lead vocals on any of Heart's songs. Well I am pleased to say that yes she does. Thank you for your raction. One of my favorite video of Heart in which Nancy sing is on one of their live shows in their hometown Heart - These Dreams (Live In Seattle) .

If you want to hear Nancy on lead vocal they did that in the '80s on 'These Dreams'. It's from this same album. This album is the second iteration of the band. They broke up and the Wilson sisters got the name and rebuilt the band and made a comeback album (this one) in around 1985, I think. '70s and '80s eras of the band were quite different but both great in their own ways.

Love Heart. I believe the band disliked this era (big hair and stuff) the people behind it were trying to make them remain relevant. they were always trying to hide Ann's weight. Ann is one of, if not the best female Rock vocalists of our time. early heart would be magic man and crazy on you. awesome sounding live as well. saw them twice. Love, Ann

I always drop my favorite artist when I find new channels :) Kate Bush!! There are so many incredible songs, but a few I can recommend: Wuthering Heights, Army Dreamers, Running Up That Hill, Hounds of Love, This Woman's Work -- but genuinely, anything by her is worthwhile IMO. In regard to Heart, so many great songs... but Magic Man is my favorite. :)

Nancy can definitely sing. In fact, her lead was their first number one hit. Check out, These Dreams. Also, Will You be There, and There’s the Girl.

This was the extreme commercialization of HEART by the record company in the mid 80's. The hair, the boobs, filming Ann in all black to hide her weight problem, filming Ann in the background and making Nancy the face of the band. Although it was the most successful time for the band - the sisters will say it was the worst time having to sell out to the record company. FYI - Nancy isn't playing the lead guitar. She plays rhythm guitar or acoustic guitar and keyboards. That was long time band member, Howard Leese with the guitar solo.

Heart was definitely one of the top rock bands in the late seventies to early eighties. They were not too happy when management decided to "doll" them all up in the eighties. They hated it so much they fired the management and went back to their normal rock look
