Fun fact: Nick Mason fondly remembers when he played this song back in Pompeii, the film director had lost a lot of the footage of the other players, so what we get to see most was his drumming

"One of these days I'm going to cut you into little pieces" must be one of the best lyrics in a song without any lyrics. Also, Pink Floyd is not ahead of their time... They exist outside of time, timeless, immortal

The instrument David is playing is called a "peddle steel guitar". It is used a lot in country music. Of course David Gilmour plays it amazingly. And the one line of words in this song is "One of these days, I'm going to cut you into little pieces".

Nice reaction Stacey, The lyric is "one of these day's I'm going to chop you into little pieces" I saw them twice on the delectate sounds of thunder tour in 88 and they were just amazing. The drummer Nick Mason now tours with his own band A saucerful of Secrets who play old Floyd pre Dark side and this is off Meddle and I saw them last Wednesday when they finished with this. If you get a chance to see them then do as though not the full Floyd experience they are really amazing. Highlights for me were See Emily Play, Atom Hart Mother, Echoes and Set the Controls for the Hart of the Sun. They had also managed to lift Sid's vocals off a demo tape from an unreleased song from before they had a record deal in 1965 and with modem tech played Sid's vocal and they played the music.

Great reaction, Stacey. We saw this show live in Philly and when this song ended (ending the first set), one of my friends commented that we needed to go to the box office and give them more money, since we had clearly underpaid for the tickets. And we still had the entire Dark Side of the Moon album (set 2) and the encores still to come. I saw them 5 times on this tour and have been to over 200 concerts. To this day, I still believe this to be one of the best concerts of all time.

Thank you Stacey for this. As a young teenager on a small dairy farm in Wisconsin, circa 1979, I heard this song on the radio a few times, and fell instantly in love. It was a sound that I'd never heard before. Didn't know the name of it because, you know, wacky FM DJ's don't care about the music, just mindless gabbing. All I knew is that it was by Pink Floyd. And so, whenever I would get to the record store about 20 miles away, I would buy every Pink Floyd album they had just in the hopes of getting the one with this song on it. Finally I did, and that's how I got into the music of this band. So many great memories!

Hi Stacey! New sub here and absolute Pink Floyd/David Gilmour fan from Idaho. You should check out David Gilmour "Live At Pompeii" from 2016. David was the first live performance at the Pompeii Amphitheater since 79 A.D.!! 22 years after "Pulse", David Gilmour puts on a performance that is simply amazing! Also, you should listen to "A Boat Lies Waiting". This is a tribute to the late Richard Wright, Pink Floyd's piano/keyboard player.

I saw them in Detroit on this tour. You are correct that the audience was very quiet during the songs. I think everyone was so in awe during each song that no one made a sound. It's great they recorded this concert so we can all watch it back, but I'd equate it to watching fireworks on tv. It's not quite the same experience as seeing it in person. Carry on, Stacey, you do a great job!

I was one of the emensley lucky people to be at the Earls Court in London October 1994 Pulse Concerts..!! This was the last song of Set 1.. I was sitting in the top balcony on the left hand side looking towards the stage and the Giant 🐗 Boar/Pig was level with us on the balcony and we were about 50feet away from it as came out through the darkness halfway through the song "One Of These Days" and the lights/lazers coming out of its eyes were literally coming directly at us all the time..!! Every single song for the whole 2hours 20mins of the concert (ie) Set 1, Set 2 and the 20minute Encore was an absolute visual and musical MASTERPIECE..!! The lights, lasers, explosions, pyrotechnics, special effects and videos on the 50foot circular screen behind the band in the centre of the stage for every song was just MIND-BLOWING, Their wasn't one song in the whole concert that was done to PERFECTION, all the instruments were wired up in sync with the visuals (ie) each time a note was played with each different instrument the visuals like lights and lasers, holograms, special effects would be synchronised to go hand in hand with the music...!! I was 25 when I went to see Pink Floyd at Earls Court that night and even just over 30years later the concert still sends shivers down my spine when I think back to it or watch the DVD of the concert and I love watching people like you reacting to songs from the concert watching their music and performances for the 1st time it really puts a huge smile on my face..!! And then hear people reacting to the concert and saying that they are so jealous of the people who were there in the Stadium to see 'A MUSICAL AND VISUAL MASTERPIECE'...And makes appreciate how lucky I was to have been there in the flesh to see THE GREATEST BAND OF ALL TIME WHO WERE LIGHTYEARS AHEAD OF TIME AND THEIR MUSIC WILL BE REVERED FOR GENERATIONS TO COME 🫶👌🥰🙏 One Word Sums Up Pink Floyd and their music and concerts and that is simply GENIUSES..!!

The concert was not called Pulse. The tour wad called The Division Bell Tour after the album they were promoting at the time. Pulse is the name of the Live concert album recording this awesome concert in London in 94. I was at one of the concerts during that tour in Philadelphia, PA on the 1st night of 3 nights. Each night varied as far as the songnlist. But pretty much was very close to the list for the concert on the video. The Pig idea came about a round the Animal s album tour. There was one Pig that would fly around above the audience during specific songs. I believe, As a result of the lawsuit between Roger Waters and the rest of the band. Dave and co. couldnt use the original Pig, so they used a variant of the pig and doubled it for the tour.. Its actually a warthog. Pigs in stereo. . In the middle of the song (if your a fan of the show Dr. Who) you will hear the theme song interjected. The song is at the end of the first half of the concert. The stage lights come on and Dave informs the audience of the intermission. The words you hear are spoken by the drummer Nick Mason with his voice slowed down and modulated. He says "one of these days, I'm going to cut you into little pieces." First track on the Meddle album. Same album as Echoes. Echoes is the last track onnMeddle.

Music from a time without much technology other than a light show. Floyd was never about a song. It was always a symphony like album that stood on its own. This is pre internet when the world was much smaller and I remember spending my teenage years listening to this stuff. Awesome

Saw 5 times , always felt sorry for the people that sat up front. Pulse first song was "Shine On". #1 Version to watch Pompeii 1972 which was a lot of drums, #2 this one and Pompeii again in 2016 which start with a instrument I have never seen. One of the shows at the end they push the pigs out of the tunnel. the pig on the Animals sleeve broke free but story goes that a pilot radio the tower he just flew by a 50 Ft. pink pigs. Dave announce his up coming tour Madison Square Garden 4 days, Hollywood Bowl 3 days, Inglewood Cali. 1 day. Stacey if you were there it's beyond anything. As many just sat in silence when it was over.

"One Of These Days", off the album 'Meddle' is definitely one of PF's SOARING instrumentals. The "lyrics" were spoken by drummer Nick Mason saying "One of these days I'm going to cut you into little pieces". The flying pig is a Floyd icon (yes, off the 'Animals' album), but since Gilmour chose not to include any songs from the 'Animals' album in the concert lineup, the pigs are presented with this tune. Interestingly, during the legal battle between Waters & Gilmour over Pink Floyd rights, the pig iconography was on the table for copyright claims...so... Gilmour put tusks on it so he could technically call it a "boar" and use it for Pink Floyd concerts. LOVE your reaction and SHINE ON!!!🤘🤘

This is from the The Division Bell Tour, aka The Pulse Concert. "One of these days, I'm going to cut you into little pieces" is the only word in this by Nick Mason. I went to that concert, and yes, it was the last song of the first half of the concert. Then they start with "Speak to Me," if I remember correctly. Some people like the first half the best. Not me; the second part has Time, The Great Gig in the Sky, Money, Wish You Were Here, and Comfortably Numb. And so many great songs. I always love your reactions to Pink Floyd 💞

Yes, this is an early "proto-industrial" track I figure (the original recording is from 1971). I first heard it aged aroudn ten or eleven and the mix of stark sound and dramatic groove in it impressed me for sure... :) "Meddle" is a great album and it was a pivotal point on the road towards their big 1970s albums, Dark Side, Wish You Were Here and so on.

Funny you mention his pursed lips. I was doing a painting of David a good few years back, and no joke I made about 20-25 attempts at trying to get his pursed lips to look correct. It was nightmare, his lips ended up looking a bit 3D as there was that many layers of paint... It was the front cover of 'David Gilmour, Remember That Night, Live At The Albert Hall' that I was painting, just for anybody that want's a visual representation of the image I'm talking about.

When I saw Floyd at THIS concert, One of these Days opened the second set, followed by Money. The voice is saying "One of the days Im going to cut you into little pieces". Bit macabre but one of Floyd's heavier tracks. Bit of trivia, Floyd were known for the pigs having first been seen on the Animals album flying over Battersea Powerstation in London. While David was in the courts fighting Roger Waters regarding the ownership of the bands name, its was agreed that David could have the name if Roger Waters had the flying pigs. Hence the reason why at the later Floyd concerts they were hogs with tusks, not pigs.

Correction, it closed the first set on the Pulse tour, but opened it on the Momentary tour previously. The earlier concert (at the older Wembley stadium, where the Queen Live Aid was performed, amongst many others) saw a burning flying bed crash into the stage from the stadium roof.

I spent 6 hours dialing for tickets. We drove 8 hours to Houston. They played through a Texas thunderstorm with lightning hitting the skyscrapers around the stadium. Rain falling through the lasers added to the epic show. There was a possibility that acid could be found at the show… This concert and the Page/Plant tour were just a level above everyone else. One of my older brothers saw PInk Floyd every time they toured the US from Meddle until the Wall (original band...never saw this variation of Floyd...but I did)...even though he was a hard core Clapton freak, he always said that he saw many really good bands (Cream, The Stones, Zep, The Allmans {w.Duane} etc) he always said consistently the best was Pink Floyd...their sound system was always top notch (* although he jokingly would say, he often wished Pink Floyd had a chance to play through the Grateful Dead's Wall of Sound), the presentation and the musicianship...no one could touch them....and they were consistent over all those years....

Another great reaction on your Floydian journey. Apart from "Pulse" another rabbit hole for you to go down would be David Gilmour "Remember that Night" live at the Royal Albert Hall in London (2006). Different musicians in his band here, with only Richard Wright, Dick Parry, (Sax) and Guy Pratt, (Bass), appearing here as well as "Pulse". Still features most of the Floyd classics though but this time having some "heavy duty" guests like Crosby and Nash, (C,S,N &Y), and David Bowie (giving an amazing performance of "Comfortably Numb"). Apart from David switching between regular guitar and lap steel, which you mention in your reaction, there's also a song in this concert "Red Sky At Night" featuring David on Sax. The guy can literally play anything and get his own distinctive sound out of it. I've included a link to this should you want to give it a go, you won't regret it, it's extraordinarily beautiful. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fprPmoqLnZ6dkJI

this was like an intermission song, if you'll notice the backup singers were dressed in white gowns before, and after this they'll be wearing black.

I saw the Pulse concert in 1994 at the then Giants Stadium in New Jersey. Being outdoors they had huge flame throwers at the sides of the stage, where the pigs were, shooting flames upwards. People half way the stadium could feel the heat from the flame throwers. At the end the pigs fell down from the towers. You can't see that in this video but you can see Rick Wrights eye following them.

"One of these days, im going to cut you a little pieces" It's the full title and we hear it with the voice, the story is that Nick Mason was angry with a radio DJ who had spoken ill of his girlfriend :)

This song was the 1st song on the Meddle album, 1971. It is the last song of the first half of the Pulse concert, before they come back and start Dark Side of the Moon in its entirety. I know you've said you will do a full album reaction to Pink Floyd sometime. Perhaps the second half of the Pulse tour, which is Dark Side encored with Wish You Were Here, Comfortably Numb, and Run Like Hell would be a good long "full album" listen-a-long and reaction some time!

If you really want to see Pink Floyd in one of the eeriest moments you should check out "Live at Pompeii". Performing in an ancient volcano with no audience or special effects. Nobody has made anything like it to this day. They perform this song and one called "Echoes" which is a song that David Gilmour refuses to perform live anymore now that Rick Wright has passed on, and I can fully understand why. I saw Pink Floyd live twice after Roger Waters left the band, including the "Pulse" tour. No offense to Roger, but they put on such a great show it blew my mind both times. Two of the greatest concerts I have ever seen and I have seen a lot of concerts.

6:27 yeah..David does that with his mouth, others make duck face, like bassplayer of Hooverphonic, Dave Murray of Iron Maiden opens his mouth in a silent scream, Gary Moore used to lip sync his guitar sounds, like he was singing what his guitar played. Mark Knopfler just closes his eyes and dreams off.

David Gilmour will play in the Hollywood Bowl this year with his new Solo album. I dont know where you from but maybe you can go to it. The Hollywood Bowl is the inspiration off the Pink Floyd Pulse stage. Next Pulse song, shine on you crazy diamond?

One of These Days was the last song of the first set (which is why the lights come up at the end of the video). Set 2 was DSOTM in its entirety.

@@Erfedwe you are correct for this particular show. I was thinking of the Momentary Lapse of Eason tour this song opened the 2nd set. For the U.S. dates they didn’t do DSTM in its entirety until their 2nd night in Detroit. That was the show before their final two shows at Giants Stadium.
