As a kettle bell certified personal trainer, this is one of the best videos for performing and teaching the swing. Good cues and good points on the differences from the bad swings as well.

@gjaddajg I honestly have no reason to see why they'd lie for the sake of a KZbin comment like this, and I think it's very likely that there's a certification system for personal trainers. I just really don't see a problem with it

I had to take a minute to compliment the makers of this video on a superb job. At 64 years old and having been working out for sometime now, I decided to try kettlebells. I hurt myself twice before running into this video, which I many times (repeatedly during actual song sessions). This allowed me to get the technique right, and I haven't looked back. I (re)started with just 20 pounds, but I am now up to 40 pounds, I'm not getting injured and am actually getting stronger in my back and legs. Thanks so much for what you've done. 🏋🏾‍♀️

I think most instructors use a KB that's too light for them. Consequently, their swings look like they are driven by arm strength rather than by the forward thrust of the hips. This lady does it perfectly. I'm proud of her!!!
@robertsteele636
@robertsteele636 2 ай бұрын
Yes, the arms should float and not pull the kettlebell. It looks that way because she doesn't fully extend her arms out from her chest. If she did you would see more of a float.

+Stephanie Howard There are better ways though.. doing the kettle bell swing like this is more of a hip thruster w/ a barbell on a bench is far better. I saw a video of someone who specializes in just training kettlebell from Europe on youtube. He explains how to kettle bell properly. All variations.

this the perfect swing. I've taught for years. relax your elbows. the only purpose of the hands is to hold on to the KB. The hips and legs are doing all the work. snap your hip and lock your knees to make the KB weightless at the top.

Excellent progression with the dowel and keeping the bell against your abdomen! As a third step I would progress to a dead-stop swing and back down. Fourth step would be multiple reps as you have done in your third step.

if you watch when she swings the bell, notice by referencing her butt position against the wall in the background she doesn't actually push her butt backwards...this is because she allows her knees to bend too much. less bend more hip hinge.

What cues can i use to remember to keep a neutral spine and to hinge at the hips?
@martindoyle7754
@martindoyle7754 3 жыл бұрын
When I see trainers doing this exercise, I see they don't understand the mechanical load on the Lumbar spine discs. Discs get injured in spinal flexion and quicker with a load on the end such as a kettle bell. When you rupture a spinal disc you may have it for life and the chronic pain that comes with it. Read the literature on spinal load in flexion.

This is most likely on purpose. What you are seeing is her effectively creating torque and abduction, thereby increasing gluteal activation and stability in the hips. The concern would be if her arch were to collapse promoting knee valgus, or buckling.
