You had one of the best teachers I know. And Jason knows the Lower Sac as well as anyone. Hook sets may be free but they take REALLY good reaction time. You done good for a beginner!

You discovered a treasure. Fly fishing is the ultimate in touch with nature that you could have. Added benefit is some of the best waters in the lower 48 are up there. I have been on the fly for over 40 years but will break out my conventional gear periodically. Please keep sharing.

Thank you! It takes a while to learn the basics, but I really enjoy it and I’m looking forward to doing it again!

Nice job for being a first timer. You’ve renewed my interest in tossing the flies again for bass and stripers in the delta after a long layoff

That could be a lot of fun! Good luck! 🙄

I’ve caught trout fly fishing streams/rivers in Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, etc, but the most fun I’ve had with a fly rod was catching big bedding bluegill (bream) in southern states Arkansas, Georgia, Alabama and Virginia…100 fish days were common using topwater popping bugs and my own hand-tied nymphs. Now that you’ve got the fly rod basics figured out, consider booking a delta trip with the guides who fly fish for stripers…you’ll love it!

I might have to do that, sounds amazing! Thanks for watching! 🤙🏼

😂you can have all the bluegills you want I'm tired of them. I get bored after about 15 of the same size bluegills. Never get tired of trout

Great job!! Get your fly game dialed in for throwing streamer flies and poppers to bass and stripers at the Delta. Works really well when the fishing is slow using the regular bass stuff.

Stacy, you did really well as a new fly fisher. I've seen newbies do much worse! Heck, I've seen people who said they were fly fishers do alot worse! Of course, you do have the advantage of being the video editor lol... I've had the pleasure of fishing with Jason a few times many years ago before his change of vocation. Glad to see he's back to guiding on the Sac. Your vid has gotten me interested in fishing with him again

I’ll admit, I may have edited out a few more missed bites! Otherwise, what you see is what you get! Jason is an excellent teacher for first timers - very thorough, patient, and encouraging. I’m sure he would love for you to book a trip and you better hurry up before salmon season! Thanks for watching. 🤙🏼

There’s a reason my default is fly fishing. It helps keep my mind active and not drifting to stressful things in life. Truly therapeutic for me. Fly fishing in the kayak doesn’t get any better.

You did well for the first time fly fishing... it's too bad you were catching so many suckers... I've never caught suckers that many on flies (I grew up fly fishing in northern NY)... you should try it again, but try it wading a river instead of float fishing... lot of fun that way

Nothing better than catching em on a fly, love the technique diversity of the Channel. Congrats on 3k subscribers!! FYI a strike indicator can be as simple as a piece of yarn tied on the line for really light fly presentations. When I started I was really surprised how light the bite was and how quickly you have to set the hook.

No kidding, those fish outsmarted me so many times! I’m definitely trying to branch out and try new things…life is too short not to.

Bass fly fishing fishing with light line would be super fun. It's not that fly fisherman can be snobbish, it's just like Brits inviting you to bird hunt and you show up with a pump shotgun. If you think skipping a lure up under trees with a baitcaster is good, wait until you see a good fly fisherman do a roll cast up under the same spot.

would be good to reduce the pop of sucker fish as they do eat trout and steelhead eggs, may be put them in your garden compost.
