@@djtrankilo231 It's actually the first purpose-built indoor baseball stadium. The others that came before it were multipurpose. It's funny because the Trop hosted arena football and NHL games before it was ever used for baseball. Had they built it in the mid 70s, it would have been beloved. It's not a bad place to watch a game, but it was outdated by the mid 00s and should have been replaced after the 2008 season.

I like the Trop. I think it's cute. There's nothing wrong with it. It is, by far, the best dome ever built for baseball, certainly far better than the Metrodome or the Superdome.

I think Olympic Stadium in Montreal was like the forgotten prototype of super stadiums (plus it also cost a billion dollars). It just looks so futuristic. The retro futurism of the 60s and 70s. Plus it has the not functional retractable roof. The Skydome being the first large scale retractable roof (that worked) deserves a mention as well

Butt Adams wanted 10,000 more seats for the Oilers. The only place to build them meant they had to tear out the giant scoreboard. That removed the charm of the Astrodome. It did not have the complete outfield ring until the 1990s when Adams got his wish for more seats.

The Astrodome was always multi-purpose. The University of Houston began playing football in the 'Dome in its first year, but the Oilers didn't move in until 1968 because they balked at the rent. The football configuration was also used for various dirt events between football and baseball seasons, such as motorcycle races, demolition derbies, the Astro Grand Prix midget car races, Rodeo Houston, and even bullfights. Two NASL clubs, the Stars and the Hurricane, set up their pitch within the baseball configuration. Then there was basketball (the 1968 UH-UCLA matchup, the 1971 NCAA Final Four, and some Houston Rockets games), and the Battle of the Sexes tennis match.

Marlins Park was originally built with a silver roof. But, they had to get rid of it, as it was in the flight path of MIA and the sun's reflection was blinding the pilots. Also, I believe they also removed the pool in left field.

They used 150 year old technology to open and close Skydome by using standard rail track. Railroad track dimensions were actually based on the width of a horse's ass. So the modern marvel that was Skydome in 1989 was all possible based on the industry standard of rail lines which were adapted from the dimensional width of a horse's ass. It is a solid stadium and the roof is very practical. I rate that building highly, especially after some of the recent field upgrades. Also too, back in the day the pitcher's mound at Skydome was actually raised by pumping water in underneath the mound. It was floating like a boat in a canal lock. I don't know if they do it like that anymore since the dirt infield was added a while back. I suspect the floating pitcher's mound is no longer a thing but it was a unique system for it's time.

Olympic Stadium is way out in the suburbs on the edge of town. MSG is suspended above 20 storeys of gridded underground infrastructure that goes many dozens of blocks in any direction from. There is nothing but Earth under Olympic Stadium, two tunnel-bored Metro stations are completely offset from the stadium. The lease at MSG is ending soon, they may actually raze that site and rebuild MSG at a new location. I think the current MSG is actually the third one because it was relocated twice before. I think there is a supertall being proposed at the site of MSG.

You do good videos, but please do some research before recording. It would take your videos to a next level. The Astrodome seating did not completely circle the first when it opened because of the scoreboard. You used photos that show this. The entire field was originally grass. It was the first stadium to use artificial turf, which was named fro the stadium. Kaufman/Arrowhead were ahead of their time because they chose to build two stadiums instead the trend of building one multipurpose stadium.

Six Flags allowed Astroworld to be razed because of rising gang violence and assaults. An amusement park will never return to the area. He was referring to the mini-putt style Astroturf of decades ago. The super thin, fine-textured tacky and bright green first generation turf, which is long obsolete. He was making a point about how domes of the future way back then all had the dreaded indoor bright green Astroturf surface in those days. He was drawing parallels between how we viewed stadiums and domes of 40 years ago in comparison with the more ergononical designs of today. Back then MLB domes were state of the art but they all came with first generation Astroturf. There was no way around having Astroturf inside a dome stadium back then. The same compromise doesn't exhist these days.
