Stage 1 | 400hp SLAMMED MK7 GTI Crossing South America | Rallywagen 2

Jamie Orr, Max Everhard, and Pedro Ruta Jr. set out to go from the top of South America to “fin del mundo” in Argentina in the #rallywagen, a slammed 400hp Volkswagen MK7 GTI. This multi-stage series will cover the crew as they attempt to drive nine countries, eleven border crossings, eight thousand five-hundred miles (thirteen thousand kilometers!). They will tackle the Andes Mountains, Bolivia salt flats, Brazil, Bubble Gun Treffen, local police, glaciers, the Strait of Magellan, and more.... All the way to the most southern paved road on our planet.

You were right about the fuel quality concern at least here in Colombia, our "premium" is just 91 octane, so most people use octane boosters.

91 is enouth. Moderne engine adapt automaticaly. Of course if you go full throtle there is a risk. I made this kind of travel i bring octane booster and a special ecu for low quality gaz. I never used all that it was going ok even in worst place

It was 87 AKI until mid-last year, but now is 91 AKI which is excellent, is the same as Premium in Canada as an example!

In Argentina we have 95 for standard and 98 for premium. You can easily get 101. It makes sense when everybody is driving around a small European car with a 1 liter engine

4:00 usually if you just give them a thumbs up they move on… however some are more aggressive and won’t listen. Window washers and such in Colombia are typically not as aggressive as the ones we encountered in Mexico though…

I'd love to put those lights on my gti for that rally look, how did you mount them though? Do you have an install video? I wouldn't think you would want to just drill them into the bumper, they'd need something more solid to properly mount.

We didn't really cover that part of the build, but we fabricated special brackets to mount them properly.

The chassis will definitely take a beat from such a distance on poor roads, especially with so little suspension travel and stiffness, but the sponsors will pay for the damage :) Looking forward to see how it does !

I still don’t get it, crap roads with minimal ride height just seems idiotic. Also, why FWD when there’s a perfectly serviceable Golf R option that would likely get you through the roughest of the rough, particularly if you raise it a little? Way more fun if you ask me...

So, over here in Brazil, you could use Octapro from IPIRANGA Brand or PETROBRAS Podium, both with 102 RON (gasoline)...where are you going over here in BRAZIL? I mean, which border/state are you going to pass thru? How about here in BRASÍLIA-DF (the main capital of BRAZIL)? Do you guys wanna know/drive an MK 4,5 GOLF GTI 2008 (with 1.8T audi´s engine) with some mods on it (300hp)? Do you guys know that we had this model over here for sell for about 2(two) years (from 2007/2008)?
