Stagecoach Princess Road Bus Depot Manchester 12-03-11

This was my last drive on the last day around princess road bus depot before closure, Goodbye Princess Road.

Many years ago I went around Princess Road depot. My Grandparents owned the Bakery which was just around the corner on Princess Road ( A+M Bakers and Confectioners) on the same block as the Newsagents on the corner of Princess Road/Bowes Street, sadly he closed when Asda opened up further up Princess Road as he just couldn't compete on price. I think it is now a Bicycle shop. I remember the queue of Drivers and Clippies waiting outside the shop for my Grandmother to open up, waiting for fresh bread and pies/cakes as my Grandfather had been baking bread, making meat/pork pies and cakes since 5 am in the Bakehouse at the back of the shop. My uncle was a Clippie and I used to on occasion take his lunch upstairs (staff canteen) at the depot. I also remember the huge line of buses sat outside on Bowes Street, when Manchester City played at home ( Maine Road) for taking fans from the ground.

I used to live across the road from the depot for 30 years.My late Father was a bus driver there from 1937 to 1960,unforrtunatly he did live to see his retirement.Did not need a clock in my bedroom, as a kid,looked out of the window and could see it across the road.Sad day/memories for me when I was there on the last day of before its closure.

Hi, The camera that i used for the video was a Canon SX 30IS hd 720p which was firmally strapped to the cab inside behind the windscreen

I now work on the site of this bus depot....was it ever haunted ?

Never seen anything in 20 yrs there but I went back a few days after it had closed to move some stuff to the new depot at Sharston along with another driver I took some photo's of the old offices upstairs at the front of the building and heard chairs being moved along the floor there was only one other person in the building apart from us two and that was the security guard downstairs.
