Mike Mushok is a very underrated guitar player. His tone was very tight and precise. Plus he introduced the majority of us to the fanned fret guitar concept before every douchebag with an mac book and an amp sim decided to jump on the bandwagon.

Yes - agreed 100%. His precision is very much underplayed, and his riffs and use of bends, open chords, and effects were always very balanced. This album is one of my top front-to-back records from the late nineties nu-metal era.

Mike Mushok baritone guitars is the PRIMARY influence for me playing baritone guitars since 2005 bc I was very influenced by KoRn’s 7-string guitars standard A drop tuning but I love how Mike Mushok actually took it a different level for the NEW Staind album. He is NOW playing in F# tuning on a 7 string PRS Baritone guitar one of his custom made guitars. I kinda wish he was still playing his fanned fret baritone guitars believe me 🤩 or even his Ibanez MMM1 baritone guitars that he used for in “Break The Cycle” & “14 Shades of Grey” 🙁☹️ I own a couple of baritone guitars the Ibanez 27’scale baritone that Mike DeWolf from Taproot plays on the Welcome album and I own the ESP LTD Black matte finish guitar that is a solid body. I will definitely be playing on baritone guitars for the rest of my life 🤘🏽🤘🏽

A couple things i always found unique about this particular performance in regards to Mike Mushok... 1. The guitar tuning for Just Go and Mudshovel are the same, so its surprising he switched guitars when they went into Mudshovel. 2. The guitar he uses on Mudshovel and Spleen is not a baritone guitar, its one of the Ibanez AR420 models, or one of those models. And im pretty sure the scale length on those guitars is the same as a Gibson, so 24.75 i believe? I just always found that so unique and odd that Mike did that for this performance. Because for both Mudshovel and Spleen, youre tuning the low string down to Ab...and thats pretty low for a 24.75 scale length guitar. 3. Pretty sure this is the only available live performance that Mike plays Spleen on an Ibanez AR420. Every other performance i know of he is using a baritone 6 string. I always wondered if it had anything to do with the Ibanez AR420 not staying in tune well or something like that.
