I was raised in the projects in a single parent home. I was bullied everyday and talked down to by my teachers. I would play this song everyday as loud as I could, dreaming of a way out. I am now an engineer with a wife and 4 kids. We don’t live in the project, I own a house. My kids don’t have do homework by candle light or worry about when/where their next meal will come from. I can provide for their every need. When life got hard I would play this song and dream about a better life. I’ve been blessed. Thanks for this song.

Staind, Chevelle and other bands helped me through my darkest days in the early 2000’s. Failed marriage, failed relationships. So bad that I was close to being homeless. Music like this helped me thru the bad. Within years, I met the lady that would be my wife. Showing me how to love. How to live. Always pushing me to be a better man. 13 years later, I can never imagine what life would be without her. 2 amazing kids. A great Job. It’s something I could never dream of. Thankful everyday. @@anushasharma9946 This song is a mixed bag for me. You see, I was a shaken baby, and so the words, "somebody shake me cause I, I must be sleeping..." and "I'm so afraid of waking, please don't shake me!" are especially poignant to me, and not always in a good way. In fact, they quite often remind me of my disability that was the result of shaken baby syndrome. At the same time, however, I love Staind and Aaron Lewis. They have so many songs that speak volumes to me, and I even went to an acoustic concert of his in Portland many years ago. Everything I know about him, everything I have heard, speaks of a good, caring person that puts his heart and his soul into his music... which is why I can listen to this song because I know he doesn't mean it as a way to hurt someone but as a way to simply wake them up. When I listen to "So Far Away," I do so to remind myself that life has BOTH good and bad, and we need both. Without the bad times, we won't recognize the good... and while it is hard for me to listen to, it's sometimes a message that I need to remind myself of.

I constantly acted out in school, suspended multiple times, nearly failed out of high school, had legal troubles outside of school, and even attempted to take my own life as a teenager. everyone in the comments, I've noticed there's no trolls usually when it comes to these types of songs. Everyone just genuinely is here to listen to some old school alternative and everyone respects the artist and the song. I feel like ppl who like these songs so much and like these bands are empaths. We feel everything so deeply. And thats why we all get along

The Goth girl just after 1:38 is my wife. This was in Chicago in 2003 in either June/July, just before she moved here to England. 12 years has gone fast. Edit: 7 years on, still married 3 children living in Wales, UK. Can't believe this was nearly 20 years ago!

I know, awesome song and I was addicted to Staind and now it's as if I rediscovered them and I hate myself for forgetting for a while and what a mess we can make of our lives when we forget and we don't realize we're already there and already having the time of our lives and we then get to what we wanted and look back and miss where we were and this time, I'm staying and not forgetting and time is just an illusion and it's all still here and we're all still here and we all just got lost and we all can help each other remember who we are and it's great to share this with you guys... Much love..

This is my life Its not what it was before All these feelings I've shared And these are my dreams That I'd never lived before Somebody shake me 'Cause I I must be sleeping Now that we're here, It's so far away All the struggle we thought was in vain All in the mistakes, One life contained They all finally start to go away Now that we're here it's so far away And I feel like I can face the day, and I can forgive And I'm not ashamed to be the person that I am today These are my words That I've never said before I think I'm doing okay And this is the smile That I've never shown before Somebody shake me 'cause I I must be sleeping Now that we're here, It's so far away All the struggle we thought was in vain All in the mistakes, One life contained They all finally start to go away Now that we're here it's so far away And I feel like I can face the day, and I can forgive And I'm not ashamed to be the person that I am today I'm so afraid of waking Please don't shake me Afraid of waking Please don't shake me Now that we're here, It's so far away All the struggle we thought was in vain All in the mistakes, One life contained They all finally start to go away Now that we're here it's so far away And I feel like I can face the day, and I can forgive And I'm not ashamed to be the person that I am today

True. I was everybody's fool in high school. I was the popular guy who was goofy and fun loving enough to be surrounded by everyone un my hometown. I grew up as a gifted child with ADHD. I was depressed behind my funny demeanor. I faced unfathomable losses and tragedies at a startling age. To numb the pain, I partied too much for a year and turned into alcohol abuse and stopped attending university as a result. Subsequently, I lost my identity, was extremely sad, felt trapped in my life and my hometown so I attempted suicide twice. First time at 17. Second at 21. Weeks after my second attempt, I departed from my hometown and built a new life away in Paris. 7 years passed by, and even though I didn't completely forgive myself or others due to recurring PTSD, I came back to school, started over in Paris and graduated college & grad school with Honors and recreated a life I'm PROUD of. I had to relearn how to live, how to make friends, how to interact with people, how to accept, how to love, how to repair my broken relationships, how to make peace. Everything. I changed my look, my appearance, my tastes, my wardrobe, my body shape, my mindset, even some personality traits I had to do away with in order to mature and blossom into an adult. I'm PROUD because my friends and family are PROUD of me. I'm PROUD of the person I am today for surviving suicide. Depression still lingers, l still cry here and there but I'm more at peace and accepting of myself and my mistakes than I was when I was a teenager. I'm 28 and I hope to face many more days. I must.

Honestly, Staind, I love this song so much... Cause it fits how I feel as a born-again Christian, down to the letter! 😭❤🙏✝ Hallelujah, praise the Lord Jesus Christ himself, for he reached out to me in a dream, and I've been battling so much since then, and genuinely Aaron Lewis... Your lyrics mean so much to me, man. I'm always praying for you guys, as my favorite band still active right now, probably of all time. God bless you all, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ I pray onto you all, amen.🙏

This was my class song for Senior year. It still is so fitting for us. We were all young and dumb kids but we grew into men and women we could be proud of and that other people were proud of too. Nothing feels better to truly not be ashamed of who you are today, everything you went through it brought you to this point, to rise up and be your best self. God bless ❤️
