It helps that my son is a glazier but I invested my money in a sheet of glass, cut to the size I wanted. I can put what ever colour I want underneath and I don’t have to worry about what I have on my desk or getting different mats out. All my crafting is done on it, no matter how messy. Totally recommend it.

I have the TH glass mat as well. Honestly, I think I'm going to be getting the magnetic one by Glass Board Studios. Tim's mat is "ok", but I've already got some deep scratches and gouges in it, which I guess is to be expected since it IS a craft mat. He just released a mat to go over it, but I find the price point RIDICULOUS when you can just use a silicone mat over it for half the price! I'm one of those crafters who's fed up with "designers" gouging their customer base. I wish your husband a speedy recovery!

I also started on a tiny bedroom. My desk is kidney shaped, so not much room. But, it is glass topped. I use old desk calendars as my work surface and drag out a glass mat for certain things. So no tips to share! Pretty butterfly! We've built a new house and I'll have a "real" craft room!

I have the black Tim Holtz mat. It works quite well, but when the time comes to replace it I will go with the white magnet glass board. I, too, find it too dark to see what I'm working on well and am forever putting a piece of white copy paper or some such underneath my project. Sort of defeats the purpose of having an easy to clean surface. 😂😂😂 So glad to hear there's healing happening for both of you. 🤗

Hello Christine, I absolutely love watching your videos. I find listening to you so relaxing. I bet you were a fantastic teacher in school. I also love the way you say “just”. And I really love the things that you say, and the words that you use. It’s sort of from my Era. I’ve just turned 60, so I can relate to a lot of the things that you say. While I was watching this video it made me think of those art deco enamel brooches that you could get of lizards and things like that. So, I wondered, perhaps you could use gilding flakes in silver, and then use the Ranger embossing translucent powder on top of that to create a similar effect as the old art deco brooches. I’d be very interested to see you try that. You could put a silver cut out over the top of it like you did with the black cut out over the top of this one. You could also do some kind of embossing on the bottom layer that has the silver gilding flakes on it so that when you look through the embossing powder you can still see the embossing. I hope you understand what I mean. Anyway, thank you so much for your absolutely delightful videos. It’s such a refreshing change from so many others where they are all trying to sell you something. I thank you

Tim Holtz uses the Media Mat to smooch inks on and spray with water. The inks bead up when you do ink smooching on your card giving a texture to the inked card. The glass part (black) just colors the card so the card is smoothly colored. I like my mat as it is easy to keep clean using alcohol inks, texture pastes etc. Tim did say NOT to use ALCOHOL inks on the white media mat as they will stain the mat. Hope this helps.

My TH glass mat is behind my door, I use the WRMK glassboards because I like the colour better. I tried putting a large piece of Kraft over the black side of my TH and that worked but I have the great advantage of not filming my creative efforts so no need to worry about flickering. I would like a magnetic glass board but it's not an essential purchase. I found a company in the UK that sells magnetic glass noticeboards which would work perfectly well - and the colour choices are fabulous! They aren't marked out in squares etc so ideal, I find all the lines distracting. Liz

Great fun watching Chris. You did pick a very intricate die😂. I think it could have looked equally good just done on black card in a random marble pattern and then add the stacked dies on top and trimmed. I too have lots of old embossing powders, not as many fancy ones, Wow wasn't on the market when I started collecting or only just. I have a sheet of tempered glass on my desk, with countersunk holes they drilled in the corners for me. Hope it works for you ok. Ex

I have Tonic Studios version of this glass mat, and it's white underneath instead of black and I prefer that. Would not buy a black one, but that's only my take on it. As someone mentioned below, a seethru piece of cut hardened glass would probably work just fine or even better since you can choose the background colour to your liking. I think a grey background could work fine. Perhaps getting a matt glass surface is possible too? Always enjoy your experiments! 😇💖🙏🙌

I have the TH glass board too, but don't care for it and ended up getting a glass matt from Glass Board Studio's because you can make it magnetic. I don't like the black glass of TH. My "newer" one is a very light mint color and I can see things well with that one. Plus I can hold things down with magnets, which I like. The white area of the TH is indeed a pallet area for your inks or paints, the sheet you had your butterfly on is to put over the white area and use like alcohol inks and such on. Why, I don't know because isn't that the reason we have the glass mat? Very cool butterfly, very cool video! I never knew there were pearl embossing powders either! Love them! Love how your butterfly came out. Hugs, Brenda

I always wondered what the point was of the white sheet. They say it makes cleaning much easier as you just peel off the sheet and throw away, but that defeats the purpose and so wasteful. They tout it as a great mat all round then make extra white sheets for one side🤔 i’d use a cloth and wipe up the mess. If the glass is stain proof and easy to clean I’d do without the extra waste any day. I can’t afford the mat but even if I could I’d look especially, the magnetic glass ones are on top of my list. As always, a lovely experiment with gorgeous results. Of course, I have an obscene amount of embossing powders so this is something I might consider but maybe with larger spaces. When I first began heat embossing, I found colored embossing pens which I thought helped to intensify the color (and also hide any deficiencies in the powder process on my part). I'm not sure if they've all dried up or not. I found a decades old striped rainbow neon ink pad that was still juicy recently. How it managed to not dry out, I'll never know. Hunting for your card now. Continued thoughts for Phil's recovery and that your dental woes work themselves out.

This looked like fun. I've not seen that type of embossing powder before. Are you familiar with the WOW Mixed Media Embossing Brush? The applicator looks like a nail polish brush. It might make applying the embossing ink a bit easier. I found the easiest way to emboss from underneath is to put the piece in an aluminium foil baking tray and then apply the heat tool - saves your fingers too.

As I watch you making this, I could not help but wonder if this could be done with the luscious powders by adhere the powders to the pieces that come out of the die cut.

I love your butterfly!!! It is gorgeous. I appreciate your talent so much. I could not find that die on the Gummiapan site. Is it an outdated die?

Sacré jeu de patience ! Mais le résultat en vaut la peine . Il ne faut quand même pas être maniaque ni nerveux . Ça doit être un die ancien car il ne se vend plus chez gummiapan 😊

I have seen Natasha Foote (from NZ) do a similar project. She didn't use anything to hold the embossing powder - she just filled up the 'wells' and heated from the bottom till the powder started to melt and then finished off from the top. (Edit: Sorry, I hadn't watched far enough through before I posted😂)

I'm afraid I don't watch her videos, I saw part of one once and I couldn't cope with the accent. Have you seen this one where I used an iron to melt the powder? kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZzCkKFtjtegadE

We all have diffeaccents and dialects. Here in USA I'm from California I have inlaws in Minnesota and they have a Swedish hint to their speech, the southern states have a southern drawl, North Eastern states drop their "R". And it's very difficult for me to understand them. My friend was born and raised in England. When I first met her, I couldn't understand anything she said. (It was quite embarrassing). I don't know what kind of accent I have, because while visiting England a native said I had a nice accent.

Personally I’d not have put the black on. I like the white. I also think it would be stunning cut in silver or gold. Perhaps that as a final piece.
