How do you thread the cable through your corner pieces. To make a right angle. How do you drill the hole. Follow question when making holes to go down a ramp way how do you get that angle perfect when drilling the hole through the 4 x 4 post?

...just so homeowners in Canada know... horizontal is a no-no under Part 9 (residential) of the Building Code. It requires your guard to be non-climb-able. Now I'm trying to figure how to do cable and turnbuckle vertically! :(

how did you drill the holes in the corner post?
@greyhawk-1113 жыл бұрын
45 degrees... which creates the illusion that it goes in straight on one side, then makes a 90-degree turn and out the adjacent side. Obviously, if it was a 90-degree turn inside, you wouldn't be able to thread the wire through it. So the hole is actually drilled in one side and straight through at 45 degrees to the other side. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's the method... especially since it just isn't possible any other way.

i guess in this case it's a failure of the building code where the infill is flexible ... since a child could easily get their head through and out again .... depending on tension

Thanks for posting that. Seem pretty straight forward for horizontal runs but, what kind of jig do you use for drilling angled holes in the 4 x4's for a stair railing?Thanks for your help.

I've heard that you need an additional support post if the posts are greater than 4' apart. Is that correct?

how did he thread through the right angle corners?
@tench41759 жыл бұрын
That's a good question. From the footage it appears that drilled through one side then drill through the angle side to connect the path to thread the cable. You could also treat it as a end post and offset the cables by 1".
@OldPhotosYT6 жыл бұрын
He drilled thru fronty one and other side. Look at the cable at one point of movie, where the cable is bend to one side, probably to fit easier thru.

The one issue I see with respect to child proofing, is that toddlers and beyond will use the horizontal cables as a climbing tool.
