Got the stair railing installed (hard) - still need to do the balcony railing (easy). Not screwed to the posts yet; still deciding how to attach. Made from 1/2" rebar painted flat black and 2x4's for now. I might change the rails over to oak if I can get enough milled and drying, but we want to move in sooner rather than later.

Super job. I was curious how many logs you used and how much they cost including delivery. I was thinking on building a cabin in Northern AZ the spring and summer of 2024, or maybe starting it late 2023. I like the short clips you do on these, would be nice to see some more detail but heck I'm sure anyone building a log cabin could figure it out. It would be nice to see a compilation of the build from the start up to current date. Thanks for sharing. Best Wishes & Blessings. Keith Noneya

64 logs in the walls, 26 for the roof rafters, 32 joists for the 2nd floor, 4 support logs, 1 girder log, and one monster (10,000 lb) ridge pole. So about 130 logs. Then about 1000 2x6 deck boards for the roof and second floor. I think the whole thing weighs around 300 tons (a standard 4 bed framed home similarly sized weighs about 40 tons). Good luck with your build! Sounds exciting!

@@bawhjth I did some checking in my area and a 40ft log average diameter of 12 inches is $440.00 ea. I figured 60 logs for the walls, three ridge supports and 1 ridge log. I though I would use dimensional lumber for the inside and rafters. I'll use 9 logs for the 1st floor and 5 logs for the second floor. At 40ft I figure I'll loose about 5ft so the cabin will be 35x35 inside. I won't build the 2nd floor but leave it open so I don't have extra taxes on the build. Then later when I sell it or want it then I'll either sell it as 2nd floor capable or pay the permit and build it to sell that way. I may install the 2nd floor girders and leave the flooring off and no stairs for the inspector. It's just my wife and I and we don't need it, so why do it now. Thanks for the comeback. Best Wishes & Blessings. Keith Noneya
