Thank you for filming this I have not seen this in years!!! I was in the Marine Corp stationed at Kaneohe Bay MCAS in the early 80's. I climbed those exact stairs in 1984. Brings back lots of memories❤

I love Oahu we have been many times, done ALOT of hikes but never got to do the stairway. Congrats to you. Make sure to do Coco creator. Mahalo thanks for sharing.

You guys did the illegal hike because you went through government property. The legal hike is on the other side and it's double the length and time. But the route you guys did was faster and more risky because the stability of the railings are unpredictable. It may look stable but you never know. At least you guys got to do it. Now the stairs are gonna actually be dismantled. For years, people wanted the stairs to be restored but it takes a lot of money and maintenance just to keep it up. Now you have this as a memory. An amazing memory.

Its actually way more dangerous on the legal side.

Actually, I think this looks really dangerous. Beautiful. I wouldn’t recommend this. ‘Legal hike’ yes.

Hi! Can you please give some tips on where to park and how to find this path? What time did you guys start the hike? I’ll be doing this hike this week and so excited. Thanks
@h0llypops3 жыл бұрын
We parked quietly on Makena Street Kaneohe HI 96744 . (The residents are understandably frustrated with the foot traffic, so we made sure not to bother anyone /park inconspicuously . )Then just follow the private road that leads up through 2000 ft of Hawaiian jungle to the base of the stairs. Good luck and be safe!

Also, would bring 2L water minimum, (I went though 1.5L) we passed a couple folk with just a single water bottle, I don’t think that would be enough.

A stairway open to the public so tourists can get up there easier and litter/graffiti. Outstanding
@ginelleiammarino71953 жыл бұрын
It’s not open to the public. It’s illegal to actually climb the stairs but people still do it anyway.

The bamboo forest looked like the easiest way.And had a path so we were not trampling on vegetation 🙂 Hawaii is so green and lush!

From Makena St. How long do we have to hike going to the bamboo forest?
@h0llypops3 жыл бұрын
From Makena St we followed the private road for about ten minutes (with lush Hawaiian greenery on both sides) before it twists to the left, then left again toward the "kapu" sign at the start of the trail.

We ran into the guard on the way out , we said good afternoon and he asked where we parked and when we explained he waved us on good afternoon.I think someone had parked on the private property (which disturbed the residents) and he was looking for that person/s, so it’s good to be mindful of where you park!
