This was the most hard fought battle of all time. Over six months of street by street, building by building, tunnel by tunnel hell, until the Germans just ran out of shit to throw at the Soviets who were sending tanks right out of the factory into battle. One of the best things about German war films is that the characters aren't played by super-attractive Hollywood types, they're just ordinary looking boys and men, guys you might walk past in the street or shoot the shit with in the pub, which makes it all the more brutal and heart-rending because you think "any one of them could've been me." Also characters that you think are going to be there for the most of the film die suddenly and when they do, there's no dramatic sad music and stuff, they just die.

Jesus man... German war movies feel so much more realistic then American war movies honestly. They aren't afraid to show all the fuckups of the troops, horror of war, friendly fire, etc. They actually attempt to just recreate what actually happened without making the Germans indestructible heroes like in most American films. Edit: 3:56 it even shows the Germans fully acknowledging that the Russian weapons were of higher quality and could take more abuse and trading their weapons for Russian weapons any chance they got. I've NEVER seen an American war movie featuring a scene of the US soldiers abandoning their weapons for the superior weapons of who they were fighting...

@wolfskehler928 жыл бұрын
The Soviet army had the best tanks in early phases of the WWII. The T-34 and the KW-1 tank were superior compared to the German tanks. But after the confrontation with these tanks at the Eastern front, the German developed the Panzer IV, which was even to the T-34 and also the Panzer V "Panther" and the Panzer VI "Tiger", which were even stronger compared to the soviet tanks. The western allied armies couldn't face off against the German tanks until the British army developed the Sherman Firefly. The only American tank, which was a serious threat to the German Tanks, was the M26 pershing. Until then the americans dealt with these tanks with their strong airforces effectively.

Also the Soviets under orders from Stalin conducted mass executions in Poland and then denied it after the war. I believe most of the Soviets brutality was exposed after their collapse. So the fact that you claim "They were just defending themselves" makes you a fool.

The SturmGewehr 44 would have made the odds a lot more even for Germany, due to it's revolutionary design. It was a very effective assault weapon, as well as being the world's FIRST assault weapon. Originally set to come out in 1942, that 2 year head start would have made quite a difference. Not only that but the Gewehr 43 SelbsteladeGewehr (self-loading rifle) was a semi-aurtomatic sniper rifle that made quite a showing on the battlefield.

No respect for unprovoked agression of czechoslovakia, Polland, Netherland, Belgium, Luxembourg. No respect for defeating French army and almost defeating English army, who were not superior at the time, in an war of agression. No respect for surprise attack on the USSR. @@NoumenalSoup Did I said such a thing? I said no respect for the agressor, from soldier to field marshal. It is a reciprocity principle. They show no respect for the countries and the people they invade and murder, so simply, they deserve no respect back. And for that, at his own level, the random corporal who participated in barbarossa should feel ashamed for what he contributed to, yes. Just aknowledging they were bloody strong doesn't mean we should respect them, rather fear them. But it is different than respect. Now germany has a tiny army and do not attack anyone. They are not allowed to have nuclear weapons. Germany and germans learned to respect others. And it is good. I very much respect Germany now and the germans of today. Because we know how strong they can be but they do not abuse their power.

i think the reason why the eastern front was so horrifying was because of the intensity of hatred between the two. Obviously in every war, there's going to be heightened emotions...but there was something so insanely visceral, unforgiving, and disturbing about the complete hatred the two sides had for each other on the Eastern Front.
