@@AdigaHB +1 for GAMMA. Discovered it a few days ago after previously playing Anomaly for several months, then EFP for several months. GAMMA is the absolute peak of Stalker gameplay. Next I'm trying Radiophobia. It's Shadow of Chernobyl but modernised somewhat.

i have this opinion but not for freeplay mods. i hate freeplay mods with a passion unless its late 2000's early 2010s jankfests like lost world. as for story mods, i love those. Story mods are quite literally the peak stalker experience next to the vanilla games.

The idea of “Roadside Picnic” reminds me a lot of what Neil deGrasse Tyson once said about what he’d do if aliens ever abducted him. He said while he’s laying down on the alien operating table, he’d try and distract the aliens somehow, reach out wherever he could, GRAB whatever he could, hide it, and then just lay back down and wait for the aliens to finish with him and return him to Earth. He’d then immediately go to NASA and whip out the artifact, letting them know it was alien. He even said he didn’t care if it was the alien equivalent of just a cup or ashtray because, and I’ll quote him directly, “anything that has crossed interstellar space will ALWAYS be interesting to any true scientist.” Makes me wonder if he’s aware of or has even read Roadside Picnic, because the idea of something as simple as alien trash providing a windfall for our understanding of science is remarkably similar to the overall concept of the short story.

The stalker movie was the weirdest movie I ever watched. While literally nothing is happening you are completely drawn in, always on edge, intrigued and wanting for more. It was so fucking captivating and intense without using rapid action. But for the best viewing experience I would suggest reading the book first.
@PawelSlab

I disagree mate. The book and movies are not really related apart from the Zone as a theme. The movie is a much deeper spiritual experience, and I think it can be enjoyed without reading the book. Both are great tho!

I remember my first time in stalker I just started as a free stalker, in a completly normal camp, Looked around for a mission to start, a novice mission, got one, hunt a boar, you get a friend to hunt the boar, when i found the boar some mutants attacked us, killed my friend,and my boar, then i saw in the road a group of people, i ran to them for help, they were a lot of.... bandits, i ran for my life because i didnt knew the controls very well and honestly any of the game at all, to the starting camp, when i arrived, followed by the bandits, a big shotout started, me, whitout ammo and health, just hid in an abandoned house, while i heard gunshots, explosions and murder outside, when i look out for a little bit, i can see that the bandis killed everyone, exept one main npc, an alpha male, that just wiped everyone, in front of my eyes (tbh i think it was an inmortal npc), but when he killed the last bandit, i realized.... this just happened in the first 15 min of the game, and oh boy, i loved it After that it was like an hour of looting XD even got the boar meat, but my friend was still dead, lotted him, and started for real, beautiful game

One thing that strikes me about STALKER is how familiar and homey it feels to me as a Pole. Seriously, some of these locations look exactly like the buildings I passed every day on my way to school when I was a kid. And despite the overall theme of isolation and being overwhelmed by something entirely outside human comprehension, the game has moments where it feels kinda nostalgic. Some of these places feel like the places from my childhood: the abandoned brickworks we used to play at as kids, ruins of the warehouse we used to sneak into to drink beer as teens... There's something about this game that really speaks to me as a Slav growing up in a poor post communist country. Something that was also lost in the process of the country growing richer.

Yea annihilation is heavily based on Stalker and roadside picknick I heavily reccommend the movie, one of the few soviet era movies where it got away with light criticism of the government. The atmosphere is top, same as the soundtrack notch and the three main characters really carried it all. Great watch. Forgot to add, didnt the devs for stalker 2 put the project on hold sadly? Such a shame, it looked really good.

IMO, this is one of the least good sseth videos, due to the quality of the game itself and its potential not being properly shown off by sseth, unlike his other videos often do. Also, go play STALKER Anomaly, it's free and standalone. Anomaly is the best experience you'll get from this franchise. Stalker is one of the best ever made, and also one of the most beautiful. I hope you enjoy it. Andrei Tarkovsky's filmography is comprised entirely of masterpieces. And also watch SuperSus, an interesting person. Anomaly is the best experience you'll get from this franchise

I remember my playthru of STALKER... Sitting in the corner with just my silenced pistol, counting bullets. Last 4. And a Poltergeist around the corner... Somehow I survived and eliminated it. On the other occasion, I eliminated an entire enemy military outpost by basically casting it towards my allies. This game is packed with such stories. In truth this game, especially if you play it in good headphones, and in the middle of the night with all of the lights off, Will make you a man, or if you already are, it shall make you even more.

Despite Sseth's usual style of doing reviews I've got to say he's pretty spot on about the games. My personal recommendation from here would definitely be the STALKER Fan film 'Contract' by Sodaz (Yes, the same Sodaz who has created those wonderful 40k animations in SFM in the past). It has got to be the best depiction of the games I've seen in an animation.

First of all, you should read the book. It is great, it's one of the best book in Russian sci-fi, and in sci-fi in general. It is mainly about human nature, relations and other things. Also, the ending is just superb. Secondly, you should watch the movie. It's quite different from the book, but focuses on the same aspects of human nature, but from a very different perspective. It's mainly a philosophical movie, which you should Watch and Feel, not just expect some flashy action. Thirdly, the games are fun. And sometimes super scary. And depressing. Buf fun.

7:15 this is a complete myth, by the way no, lowering the difficulty doesn't lower the overall damage or make things healthier, you just use godawful weapons at the start that make it feel like you should be doing more damage (like the Makarov, that makes you feel like your shots are just not landing) there's a list pulled straight from the code that shows the exact tables of everything the difficulty affects

fun fact: the majority of the metro developers were former GSC employees and worked on the original stalker game. After a dispute with the then ceo of the company many of the og devs left and founded 4A games and used a lot of the preproduction work from the then in development stalker 2 on what would become metro 2033. Much of the early development for Metro was actually running in a modified version of the X-Ray engine and were using og stalker assets.
