I can totally understand why she's scared of telling her parents about it. Basically girls under this situations many times feel they're going to be blamed for a man chasing them, many of them feel guilty about that and let's be honest we all know culture still blame women for being harassed. Even if it's with a 12 years old girl. And I'm not trying to suggest it's because of her being muslim, I live in Brazil, an opposite culture and it's like this, they always try to make us feel blamed for everything that happens.

When I was 10 I had a similar situation. After Islamic School on the weekend, there were men who had vans who would transport students back to their home for a fee. Usually, you'd get into the car with people who lived in a similar area as you. Then my designated driver started putting me in the front seat with a group of kids who lived in another neighbourhood, so I'd be the last one in the car each time alone with him for some time each time. He'd make small talk with me, and I knew something didn't feel right. Wallahi I was terrified of telling my parents because I thought they'd be upset with me for allowing myself to be in that situation, or even for not telling them earlier, or them just calling me irresponsible with gender interactions. I was so scared of telling them .. but when I did, they didn't show an ounce of anger. They got upset with themselves for not knowing earlier and made another arrangement for me to get home safely. Please don't be afraid of telling your parents! They will appreciate you feeling comfortable enough to come to them!

Some parents don't show love but control and require fear. Real parents are a bless. I can confirm, we all have come to earth the same way but we are not all have the bless of a caring loving parents. Some parents don't nurture nor care for their children. Very sad reality and surprisingly, dysfunctional homes are the majority. We did a study as a part of a health care campaign and the children we talked to where school 8 to 10th graders .. Most of them feel they can't be honest to their parents and while a third will tell a sibling, two-third were speaking to people online about it either friends or strangers. All of them know how to erase evidence and make sure no one know of their problems and a few of them practice cutting in certain areas that are not visible to eyes; like the thigh! O_O I felt terrified because they told me they read of this online and they were 12 of the 200+ kids but still .. 12 kids who had access to this material! :(

The fact a grown man is asking for a 12 year olds number is extremely concerning. I was once in a similar position and I too was very scared to tell anyone. I know how difficult is can be to speak about something like this, especially at that age. People like that need to be taken seriously because they are capable of hurting you. Do not not speak to him or respond to him if he approaches you. Please note child grooming exists and he may be trying to befriend you so that he can take advantage. It appears to me for the past year he has been trying to gain your trust and also clearly attempting to get your number every chance he gets. I can't advice you enough to please tell a grown up, even if it is your teachers They can and will help you. People like that don't stop until they are stopped. Do not feel scared or ashamed, you have done nothing wrong. My prayers are with you!

I can understand the fears this 12 yo has in talking to her parents, as muslim parents we are terrible with communicating and understanding our children, we have to make sure if our child is ever in a problem they will never think twice in telling us, we need to reassure and connect with our children on the level. And to those children who have parents who do their absolute best in connecting with them, please trust your parents and don't hide anything from them. They want nothing but the best for you. i was stalked this morning on the way to uni and i am 10 years older than you, first thing i did was tell my mum. It doesn't make you childish to tell your parents. Obviously after watching this video, you should be scared, tell your mum or an older sibling and call 999. I'm sorry but calling 101 makes it come across less serious and considering he has been after you for SO long, i think it is pretty serious. Be a strong young woman and don't be afraid to ask help... May Allah protect you. Ameen.

thank you for being sane, normal people with good intentions, it's such an important thing you are doing.
@thechezzagirl7 жыл бұрын
Telling this girl to call the police like it's so simple is not good advice. Firstly, if you call 999, the police may not take a case like that seriously because it's not an emergency. Maybe educate her further on alternative lines like 101. It's tricky to charge someone without any sort of evidence so the police legally may not be able to take immediate action and her stalker seeing this might get triggered, putting the girl in danger, especially if he is mentally unstable! I think in this particular video you should advise the girl on how to go about asking for help. I love Sid and Dina, but some of the emails they get, if legit, are pretty serious and I just feel like their advice sometimes in general could be dangerous as they're inexperienced in giving advice. Ugh no hate just my opinion that I've been wanting to mention for quite some time but thought it wasn't important

unfxir nbhd I don't live in the UK but in the States if a 12 year old calls the police and tells them there's a man following them everyday, the police will definitely take it seriously. They'll be at her door in 15 min to at least investigate and see if there's an actual threat. So I think calling the police is totally reasonable.

I'm glad that you have that kind of security but I don't feel like that here, especially in London. This stalker could well be a dangerous man, so I could only hope that calling the police would scare him away, but it could do the complete opposite, you can never know! Also how can we know that it'll sit well with her parents, calling the police to her home because some KZbinrs told her to. I'm not saying she shouldn't do that, but seeing as though this girl values the opinion of Sid and Dina while she feels she cannot speak to her parents, they should encourage her to confide in them, rather than dealing with this situation independently.
@__sababakhair7 жыл бұрын
Police would more than likely be able to direct her in the right way on who the appropriate authority is, even if she doesn't have an emergency on hand. So I definitely think it's good advice.
@SuperNerd7077 жыл бұрын
I can totally understand the perspective of the 12 year old. As someone who has experienced abuse as a kid for years( and I didn't feel my parents were good 'listening' ears and were always dismissive of me), I would also suggest telling a teacher at school too. They might help. Might help re-enforce safe behaviours for the whole school so no one else gets hurt.

I remember an incident happened last year summer in my local park, a couple with their young child were sitting in the park and their 4yr old daughter was running around playing when out of nowhere a man came and picked up the little girl and started running off with her in front of the parents and a park full of people, luckily he didn't get to far as people stopped him and gave him a right beating and then handed him over to the police. Just goes to show how desperate pedophiles can be, if they can do something like this in a public place full of people imagine what they can do if they find a child alone in a quite place with no one around. If any child is reading this or watching the video please take Sid and Dina's advice and tell your parents, teacher the police or any adult that you can trust. Stay safe.

Stalkers often become physically violent, they escalate quickly and unpredictably. Most rapes, assaults and kidnapping is done by people you know, not a stranger you've never seen before. Do not ignore this, tell your teacher and wait no more than 2-3 days, then call the police.
@gr8teagazr1227 жыл бұрын
I've never seen you guys so serious- great advice too. If I may add anything it may be that one of the reasons that creeps like that are so bold is because their prey tends to be too polite when just the opposite is called for. What I mean by that is that not only is she to take busy routes with a friend, but if she is approached she needs to get loud with him as she uses those legs. The last thing creeps like that want is to be put on blast in public. He'd get away from her real quick! At the end of the day- she does need to tell adults- parents and/or the police. Sometimes the police can be a go-between with her parents too. They can act as a buffer with her parents. I mention this as a trained victim services advocate in Cali.

And it wasn't just one time he tried doing things to her but when she saw that her mother didn't do anything to protect her she couldn't do anything else except avoiding meeting him /:

I understand why she's scared to tell her parents, some asian parents (Pakistani/ Bangladeshi ) are not very open with there kids and don't talk about important issues and the person following her could be a well known local man who is respected in the community and she could be scared she won't be believed as local aunties love a good gossip and parents are afraid of shame on there families. If this is the case she should speak to a teacher preferably who's asian so they can have a word with her parents or maybe a local youth worker or trustworthy neighbour/relative. no? looool i'm being fully serious. they told her to call the police but in this instance it's best to ring 101 rather than 999, as it's a non emergency and the police will still come and sort it out.
@StayHuman20117 жыл бұрын
Simply Kemee She is right. 999 is for emergency's. This is a serious case NOT an emergency. If your baby suddenly stops breathing, that would be considered an emergency. 101 is for serious calls but not emergency's. Ringing 999 could be a matter of life and death for some one else. Bear that in mind.
@NuraM4447 жыл бұрын
fair enough but it's not a case of which one is more "serious", both can be called for serious cases but one if for more urgent emergencies. if she is ringing from the safe space of her home then it is not needed to be a 999 call basically. the 101 phone number means she can then report him and they can deal with her report.
@StayHuman20117 жыл бұрын
I've already explained the harm to you. Whilst your call is being dealt with some else could be ringing because their baby is having difficulty in breathing, or in the case of domestic violence, he could have gone to fetch a knife. Seconds is all these people have. Seconds. It is no exaggeration to say it is a matter of life and death. The scenario the girl has described to Dina is 101. The police will come to her house and take a statement and then pay him a visit and take his statement.They are still taking it seriously, they will still follow the set legal procedures. It would only be a 999 emergency if he started breaking into her house. Anyway you have reinforced my view that you live in a dumb ass country. So if you have a minor accident, where no one is hurt you ring 911 and if you have been stabbed and bleeding to death you still ring 911.

Listen Lovely, and anyone else who is in this situation, or is vulnerable to being so, Sid and Dina's advises here are spot on, but if the guy (or any suspicious guy) ever confronts you face-to-face again or is close to doing so, then one thing I learned from a short self-defence course is to keep your head up, carry yourself confidently like you can both defend and handle yourself and be loud and clear (as Sid said). One of the things I was advised to do by my teacher is if someone ever followed me, turn around swiftly towards them and yell "Excuse me, are you following me?!" It'll catch them off guard, and attract public attention. Catching them off guard is key, even when physically defending yourself. If someone ever tries to abduct you, or even simply tries to attack you, it is also completely okay to pee yourself or whatever. That might even gross them out. Go into survival mode, it's okay. Try and find self-defence classes around where you live too, it's especially important for girls to learn self-defence. Try and hinder their vision, and get them off balance, but don't hinder your own balance in the process. Don't be afraid to yell and growl! Also, personally, you should tell people you're closest to where you're going whenever you're out (i.e. your parents), but avoid doing it on social media. Call them when you reach where you're going. Give them an estimate of when you would get to and from your destination. Look up apps that might help other people find your phone, or give off loud sounds in emergencies etc. like "find my phone app" (a lot of the times these apps only work if you have data, unfortunately). And hence, keep your phone fully charged if possible. In Shaa Allah, everything will be fine. Have the courage to tell people, and also to stand up for yourself. Stay safe. And be careful. I really hope this was helpful.

I feel like a really important lesson for children, especially girls and even women is that you do not have to be nice and polite to everybody. If someone is making you uncomfortable, you are perfectly fine if you tell some stranger to pop off. If someone is harassing you, you don't need to smile and be nice about it, you are allowed to tell them to leave you alone. If someone touches you in any way at all, you shout your damn head off and cuss them out and let everybody know what they just did. Don't be ashamed or think about not wanting to emberass anyone. Your safety and wellbeing is and will ALWAYS be more important than etiquette or someone else's ego.

One day a man was sitting right next to her and touched her between her legs. She always sat in the back with her school bag on her lap, so nobody noticed it. She was too afraid and too shoked to shout at him, so after about 5min she couldn't handle it anymore and told him she has to go out know. So she left the subway and waited for the next one. She told me in school what had happened and I told her to tell her parents too. It is so important to tell kids to SHOUT THE HELL OUTif they feel unsave. It was so sad a young girl was abused in a train full of people and nobody noticed it = C

Omg this scares me like when i was little i am happy that my parents took me to school every time and this was the exact reason why my parents didn't let me go alone this happened then too, and these things happening a lot now a days too.. Don't wait for something to happen.. Just call the police they will help you don't be afraid, its for your own good..

To the young girl who wrote this email, please please please speak to your parents. I know it's scary but Sid and Dina are right, your parents may get shouty but it's only because things like this are scary for them too. At the end of the day, that's your mum and your dad, they love and care about you and will take care of it. If you are still scared to just go straight up to them then speak to an older sibling/cousin. Speak to a teacher at your school. I'm happy to hear your friends walk you home and if those friends are reading this, or friends of anyone else in a similar situation, take Sid and Dina's advice, tell your parents, tell your friends parents. I pray Allah keeps you safe. Please follow up and let us know you are ok xx

I know Sid n Dina just want to help, but I think it is quite dangerous to advise a 12 year old what to do in this specific complicated and dangerous situation. What if this child listens to Dina's advice and tells the man "I already called the police, leave me alone" and this man feels threatened and takes her? I hope this child finds true guidance and can live happily. May Allah help whoever is in need for help.

hheebbaa1993 that's what I was thinking but hope Insh'Allah everything goes well soon and that he may just stop however if she finds it hard then she shouldn't go anywhere alone if u go out and about with the same person they might pick up the fact that the "stalker" is following them so they themselves would tell the stalker to back off if not inform the police just DO NOT BE ALONE!!!!

hheebbaa1993 she could you know ... not tell the stalker ?!?! Why would she tell him ? Surprise attack that b**ch
@sarasiddiqui38797 жыл бұрын
hheebbaa1993 so what do you suggest. I mean if she tells her parents and they happen to go off on him and he's crazy and hurts them then what? a man who is stalking a young child is sick in the head and the cops NEED to handle this creep
@hheebbaa19937 жыл бұрын
Sara siddiqui If I were the child, and I was afraid to tell my parents or the police, I would have told the principal at my school. Perhaps they can handle the situation confidentially without putting the child at risk. It is indeed a tricky situation this child is in, but hopefully there is a solution.

I know that when someone is going to be crazy, you can't help anyone, but if the predator is being logical, telling them you've called the police (whether you have or haven't) might scare them away. Like would they be more likely to snatch you up knowing you haven't told anyone about them and people will never associate them with the crime, or if they think the police already have their description, etc. I might not jump in with the police card early in every situation, but if I really sense impending doom, I'd say it as a last resort

First of all, if you don't want to tell your parents, then find someone else in your family who you trust that can help you or help your parents understand what's happening. Tell a teacher at school who can make sure this guy doesn't go near any other students. You have to call the police, at least they can sort the situation out and if not, get a restraining order. If he approaches you, don't talk to him, because he can easily make it seem like you are engaging in a friendly manner so if worst comes to worst, he can't switch it on you and make it seem like you indicated that you 'liked' him. Be safe and caution and if he's following you, and you're alone, call someone whilst you're walking and let them know where you are, just in case something happens- I call my mum all the time, if I think someone is following me or getting to close, like they're trying to rob me. REMEMBER, YOUR PARENTS WANT YOU SAFE.

If you find it hard to speak to your parents, leave them a note, Text, tell a friend to, a sibling, a cousin or aunty etc. Trust me, as a parent there's nothing worse than not knowing if my daughter is in any kind of danger. I would want to be the first one to know. May Allah protect you.

I had similar experience as this 12 year old (26years ago and i remember it very clearly) i was 13 years old that man was harassing me everyday on my way to school or home,as a teenager i thought i can handle it by myself without telling anybody but it got worse, he was trying to grab my bag or my hair when no one was around it got to scary for me to hide from my parents.I found a courage to tell my dad about him and he took the matter in his hands he called the police From that day i haven't heard about that douche bag never again

Your mom dad love you! Go and tell them right away, tell your such school, tell a teacher who can tell your parents!!!! Tell another grown up maybe an older cousin or an aunty who can tell your parents for u but either way tell your parents!!!!!

Also, abusers are often people who we are close to / related to. I think many girls who go to their ancestors country and get molested can relate to this. It is so difficult to tell your parents if it happens due to victim blaming and shame etc. Please aim to stay away from secluded situations with people you barely know. And parents, if you're planning to take a holiday with your kids, talk to them about their safety x

Telling parents really isn't that simple. You can't understand it until your put in that situation
@e.a39687 жыл бұрын
Poor girl. Hope she gets the help she needs. Parents really need to be more understanding. If a girl is too scared to even mention a man is following her to one of her parents then something is seriously wrong. Parents are to blame here to be honest. They can't just water, feed and dress their kids and think 'that's it job done' they need to be consistently in their kids business, what they do after school? Who they hang out with? Do they have stresses and worries etc something needs to change in society, especially Muslim minority cultures and their attitudes towards men women and children. Inshallah the girl stays safe.

You should tell your parents nd then let them deal with this, its a cruel world don't let anyone put you in a source of danger Xx
@chloe84807 жыл бұрын
I 100% understand her being scared to tell her parents. If it was me, I know my parents aren't strict but it's just facing the issue and confronting the man and dealing with the aftermath that's terrifying. I can only imagine how scary it is to even bring this issue up to parents, regardless of how strict they are. It's just the fact that you're suddenly throwing this at them

I had a similar situation to this when i was younger, he would wait for me after school, it got to the point where my friends would have to walk home with me and then get the bus back to theirs, after maybe a month we confronted him and told him we would call the police, and he never showed his face again!

once a guy added on facebook, and typed to me that he wanted to know me . I just blocked him. a few months later he came to me and asked about my number while i was eating with my friend at burger king. i kept telling' him to leave, my friends tried to in english, cuz she is a foreigner and she can only speak English" in the end I said it louder then some guys came and told him to leave me alone. while he left, he said " I Will find, I will find u" srsly I was so scared. I couldn't go home alone for months. I don't expect u to read this ´. but girl don't be afraid to call the police and tell them. I was stupid to not do so:/ Just listen to dina and sid. :))

I don't know why but as children, there is this fear that it's your fault when something bad happens and you get scared of getting in trouble or causing drama. If you are feeling like this please DON'T. IT IS NOT YOUR FAULT! Your parents love you no matter what and will always stick up for you. They will fully support you and believe you. Trust me :)
