Valtiaan uudet vaateet = The lord's new demands. The title is a reference to the short story "Emperor's new clothes", the Finnish word for clothes being "vaatteet".

New demands of the ruler A naked critic was made to march down the street Scarred, tattooed, but singing up straight Even children are spitting, inflicting shame He is sweating and climbing the hill up like a horse in front of the sleigh A maniac on his heels, a dog humping his leg They pull entertainment out of that sight like hairs from a head Ruler is demanding A punishment for the criticism A censorship, a banishment for the sickness of the singer Disgrace as a cure Fames are undressed New demands of the ruler Wags a finger at the ruler Prisoner's stocks and shackles are shaken off like dandruff Sings his end at the public pyre even though was pointing a finger only at his mirror Was loaded with millstones Was drowned in the depths Not even a thanks anymore The criticism isn't allowed to live
@wardeni96036 жыл бұрын
And the video alludes to the lyrics, basically the singer is getting shamed and beaten up because he's singing about what the "lord" in the lyrics is doing.
@SonOfOdin756 жыл бұрын
Is it by any chance inspired by the old fairytale 'The Emperor's new clothes'?
@wardeni96036 жыл бұрын
+Folkvarthr Sonur Óðins. yes. In Finnish the word for "clothes" is "Vaatteet", and the word for "demands" is "Vaateet". So the song plays on the similarity of those 2 words

Stam1na is one of the best band ever. Antti Hyyrynen, the singer, is a prog metal genius. He also has a prog rock band with his brother and it is awesome. He writes songs that are really special and unique. I think I already said it on the other Stam1na video, but you absolutely need to look for the band Mokoma. If you try their song Sinne Missä Aamu Sarastaa, I garantee that you'll love it. They also have a new single out just now : Kepeät Mullat. Semi death, semi thrash. Not as good as Stam1na in my book, but they still rock the hell out!

I really like your videosbecause you actually listen the song and don't throw to much comments all the time while listening song. Some of Stam1na's music videos might seem random for people who don't understand finnish language but if you understand lyrics they doesn't seem so random. Also this video has some refences to some old suff from Stam1na for example "Likainen parketti".

Puolikas Ihminen and Hammasratas are the two Stam1na songs that I suggest! Hammasratas is one their heaviest ones and Puolikas Ihminen is a pretty heavy but very emotional and versatile. Panzerfaust again is maybe THE heaviest.

I believe you haven't reacted to Mokoma yet? Also an amazing band. And they actually founded Sakara Records that Stam1na has a contract with, because they wanted to get rid of EMI. valtiaan uudet vaateet translates to emperor's new orders. And the song's pretty much about "the emperor" oppressing freedom of speech
@viriili6 жыл бұрын
Valtiaan uudet vaateet is also play of words. If you replace vaateet (demands) with word vatteet (clothes), you get the title translated as Emperor´s new clothes. H.C. Andersen has written a short tale The Emperor´s new clothes. It is about two weavers who promise an emperor a new suit of clothes that they say is invisible to those who are unfit for their positions, stupid, or incompetent - while in reality, they make no clothes at all, making everyone believe the clothes are invisible to them. When the emperor parades before his subjects in his new "clothes", no one dares to say that they do not see any suit of clothes on him for fear that they will be seen as stupid. Finally, a child cries out, "But he isn't wearing anything at all!" So yeah, song is about rotten leaders oppressing freedom of speech.

And if it was 'vaa *TT* eet' it would be 'The Emperor's New Clothes'. Kind of explains the nakedness...

A "short" list of recommendations: Galneryus -> a Japanese Power Metal band. Listen to "Angel of Salvation" (I recommend the live version) or "Destiny" (the video quality is a bit low). Versailles -> Another Japanese Power Metal band (a Japanese doubleheader? Maybe?). Listen to "Philia" or "Aristocrat's Symphony", probably their most famous songs. Xandria -> a German Symphonic Metal band. "Nightfall" and "Call of Destiny", the most famous songs with the current vocalist. Semblant -> a Brazilian Melodic Death Metal band. The videos of "Incinerate" and "Dark of the Day" are good. bonus: Brothers of Metal. A Swedish Power Metal band. They have only one album, "Prophecy of Ragnarök". No need to make a video, but if you want, they did a lyric video of the song that gives the album its name. The album is very good

My take on the song is, that "Valtias", the ruler refers to our modern industrialised society. The song is about, how at we pretend to be all equal and civil, while simultaneously elevating corporations to some sort of god-king state. We permit deeds that are worse than war crimes, as long as it generates a few mil in profit. Anyone who dares questions this will be abused and told to get a life/job. It's like "Working class hero" cover passed through a Finnish social satire filter. The first person view of human abuse, is a wink at philosophical view, that letting evil happen isn't, morally speaking, very far from doing evil yourself.

The song is about self-censorship. If you watch the video closely, you'll find out that the other band members are doing the abuse (the zippo in the guitarists hand, the bucket neat the drummers feet etc.)
