Option 1 : Vadodara to kavi via Padra , from Kanzat (masar Rd) take right and then proceed to Kavi. Around 10-15kms road is single lane and bumpy at place. (no need to go to Jambusar) Distance 85kms
Option 2: Vadodara to Temple via Jambusar. (Road in Jambusar town is in bad condition 2 kms), Distance 95 kms
Else road is in good condition and one will enjoy the drive particularly during monsoon with lush green fields on both sides.
The Stambheshwar Mahadev Temple, is a 150 years old Shiva temple located in the town of Kavi Kamboi, in the state of Gujarat. This ancient Shiva temple is located on the betwixt of the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Cambay. This is very simple temple with nothing extraordinary in the architecture for the on lookers, but it is still a very unusual must visit religious sites of India. What is so unique about the temple is, that the temple gets totally submerged into the Sea during the high tide hours and as the tide starts to get low it again starts emerging out of the sea inch by inch, unveiling the 4 feet high Shiva lingam. Sea traverses through the area twice a day every morning and evening to do the jalabhishek of shivaling.
You're advised to visit this temple on Purnima or Amavasya day to view the whole phenomena.
As we reached the temple at 3:00 pm the water started approaching the temple at 3:30 pm with all its might. It was amazing to see. Whole of the temple got submerged in the water in 1 hour time. We were advised to go away from the temple.
The beach is surprisingly clean however the water is muddy and not worth playing in the water. On a clear day, the town of Khambat on the other side is visible.
Except for Shravan month, public Holidays, Sundays the beach is mostly empty. However on the day of Amavsya, Purnima and shravan month there is heavy rush and you may also face problem with parking. Parking is Free of cost and at one’s risk. There are tea stalls and some kiosks selling snacks, Khichu and Halwa. It is advisable to carry your own food.
Better leave the place before 5:00pm. The Journey to Vadodara is 2hrs and till Jambusar i.e. 25kms, you may hardly find any puncture shop or mechanic.
