Nice purchase! Tuva is a partially recognized state that existed in 1921-1944. In 1944 it became part of the USSR, now it is a region of Russia. Your album contains a part of the so-called "ethnographic series" of 1927. There are 14 stamps in total in this series. In Russia, in the condition of MNH, it costs 80-100 US dollars

I think you did well in making this purchase. This is my favorite way to buy stamps. It takes some work, but if you are willing to do the work, you can get some nice surprises. Pay particular attention to stamps mounted in margins. There various reasons why stamps can be mounted in margins. Sometimes stamps are unlisted, mis-identified (i.e wrong country) or they may be newer than the album. Sometimes it can be that the album may not have a place for a stamp so mounted, which can mean that the particular stamp could have value. Several stamps I have acquired that way are Austria Scott 33 and the well- known US error Scott 467.

About 35 years ago I bought a Scott album published in 1902 full of stamps, finally had to take the stamps out last week. The pages were getting brittle and breaking. I have kept the album because it had some interesting information on some private back of the book stamps.

Check out the early Turkey. You may have a few good items there. I usually look at US, Canada, Germany, Italy and France to evaluate how much catalog value was put in. Love the album. Pages not perfect, but a top of the line album for that era!

That's going to be a fantastic (if somewhat fatiguing!) sort-through, which should certainly keep you busy for a while...are you going to pursue all-world collecting for at least a while, or are you still making up your mind? Either way, that album is a first rate collection builder. I was disappointed not to see any of my own favourites (GB!) but would expect that if the Australia has been picked over, then the GB section would probably also be an obvious target for any previous dealer...but the glimpse of one of the stock book (?) or album covers beneath the Global Album was tantalising! Thanks for sharing your buying experience...you seem to have an eye for it...I often seem to end up paying over the odds, unlike you, (we all do it accidentally sometimes, but I think I probably get too carried away at stamp club auctions and don't know when to walk away). Cheers Dave

Can you do a video about the Albanian stamp? I have two sets of a series of them and haven’t set the time aside to research them just yet.
@maxf73513 жыл бұрын
This was helpful & interesting. I have a few older but probably common stamps that are stuck to postcards, postdated & mailed from 1906-1947. I wonder if they hold any real value, showed them to a local collector but he seemed disingenuous. I have a 1926 American Sequintenial Anniversary Exposition in Philadelphia PA post card postmarked during the week of the event from the event. If I did my research correctly its got a common red GW 2cnt stamp, but its going to be 100yrs old in 5yrs & has an autograph from the star of the show lol. I'm getting into stamps, thnx!

Just found your video and what a fantastic buy. For me the camera seems a little too close to the album pages making it hard to see clearly. Other than that found your video very nice and interesting.

Printing plates have raised metal where the desugn is white and grooves where the ink fills in the image. Now imagine a plate (50-100 stamps) that is used to print thousands and thousands of sheets. The raised metal gets worn and bits can break off, even if the steel plates have been hardened. This happened to the lower bar of the E in one position on the plate. Ink filled in the exposed area, turning the E into an F. If the printers found the problem wuickly, then few stamps were made and the error can be rare. If not, the error will be more common and worth only a small premium.
@Robertbrown080493 жыл бұрын
The Albanian stamp is part of a set that was never issued. I have 4 of them but not this one. It was also made with Posta crossed off and Takse (Postage Due) overprinted. I have 5 with the overprint so there is at least 5 to these sets. Great Argentina error block. Chinese stamps are becoming harder and harder to find. Since the middle class is growing in China I think that they are being bought here and exported back to China as every show I go to there is at least one Chinese person going around asking for China. It was nice to see the Master Global album as you do not see them that often. I have a Supreme Global album which is one step above the Master. I love loking at old albums so you could have made this video twice as long and I would not have complained. Great purchase!

Tanna Tuova was one of those brief entities that accompanied the demise of Czarist Russia, before the consolidation of the Soviet Union. Their stamps have some value, and have a quite original look. The air mails, of which there’s only one there, are the best. Always fun to look through albums. Trying to identify Chinese overprints is a nightmare, but there are potentially great finds. Some of yours look unusual.

Nice lot for $125. That is the Minkus Master Global album - it has a big brother called the Minkus Supreme that has the best coverage of any world album ever made. The Scott blue albums were actually junior albums and are equivalent to the Master in terms of coverage. The Supremes and some Masters can have additional pages called supplements that bring the album up to date (or at least past the initial copyright date on the title page. In the US section there is a Washington Shermack coil stamp in the imperf spot - if undamaged and genuine it's a fairly pricey stamp (expertised).

Chinese stamps from the mid 30"s to the mid 40's can be quite fascinating. There are tons of varieties which were caused by first the Japanese bombing or overtaking the cities they were printed in and causing a relocation of printers and new plates to be made, Then there are the overprints. First Japanese overprints on Chinese stamps with different varieties. Then when either Chiang Kai Shek's or Mao's forces would liberate a town they would have a local make a woodcut for overprinting purposes. Often time towns would change hands between the two sides a number of times causing many varieties of overprint. Some of these can be quite valuable, especially if used or canceled on envelope. This one decade of Chinese stamps can be a whole area of collecting in itself. Obviously, the specialized catalogs are invaluable for this era. And even some of those are hard to get. Especially the ones covering the post war overprints.

I've been collecting for many many years and have a somewhat complete Argentina collection, although none of the more early expensive issues. I'm sure I don't have any that catalog over $100. I have never seen the 50c Eva Peron error. I immediately grabbed my Scott Catalog. The stamp is #606 but there is no error listed. My guess is that it may be in the Scott Specialist Catalog, in which case, my next guess is it's valuable. If it were common, it would be listed in the Scott Catalog itself. All I can say is wow. Hope you make some money!
@gustaaf18923 жыл бұрын
@@mickyflynn635 I'd say you're right about the Scott specialist catalogue. I also only have the standard one, which serves me quite well. At a $150 that buy was a steal. When I think about how much I have spent on building my collection over the last 3 or so years, I've obviously gone the wrong way about it.
