I am brand new to the AR world, I have had many different rifles through the years and none of them feel as comfortable to shoot as my AR. In learning about my AR I found TheNSSF channel and after watching many videos I realize that I really didn't know that much. Don't get me wrong I am a good hunter, I wise enough to learn from expert and become even more successful in my shooting. Thank to all at TheNSSF channel.

I'm glad you said this. People need to understand there is a huge difference in shooting techniques derived for sport and combat. Most of the styles young shooters fall back to are what they see on t.v. and video games. That's all fine and dandy if your being shot back at and just need to put rounds down range. Even with that most who think they are shooting proper "fighting" stances don't even understand what they are doing or doing wrong.

Hey England and Australia, if you ever get to the states I highly recommend you visit Las Vegas, Nevada. Local gun stores rent machine guns! Not cheap to shoot 10 rounds a second but you will have a GREAT time! Ask your concierge. Always stay on the strip. NEVER spend more than 2 days in Vegas, it will lose its allure. (Yes, really!) Better yet, make e-mail contacts with people from Arizona (1 hour away) who own machine guns. Shooting tracers in the desert rocks!

It's nice to see sound advice for recreational/sports shooting. Far too many videos on KZbin advocating a square on stance. The square stance only has a place in battle, wearing armour. For all other shooting, it's just handicapping yourself.

@himawaricopter11 жыл бұрын
What you're describing is more of a modern combat stance, presenting a tighter profile while still squared off to the target (to expose body armor rather than the side of your body). The stance advised in this video is better suited to competition shooting, where you want maximum accuracy and fast target acquisition (so they use the "Magpul grip" too). Having the shooting side back ("chicken winging") provides better support for the rifle stock.
@jordanwurz10242 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tips!
@himawaricopter11 жыл бұрын
True but this is for competition. Semi-blading the body provides better support for the rifle. Costa's squared off stance is more about presenting body armor and a lower profile, while maintaining the competition-style parallel support arm for quick muzzle control.

@AfKman101 No, they don't. The way the rifle works the bolt carrier actually recoils back into the stock where a large spring then returns it, stripping the next round out of the mag and into the chamber.

@Hyperpulsehammer I think it all depends on the situation. I'm sure at further ranges they would want to use the stance Jerry was talking about for increased accuracy. Up closing in room clearing they would square themselves.

I don't know, I find hunkering down more effective. If I stand up straight, I notice that I am less balanced, and can't get good stability. I also noticed I shoot better with a wider foot spread.

No it isn't, I live in England and all you have to do is go to your local police station and apply for a Firearms Certificate (FAC), or a Shotgun Certificate, depending on what you want to shoot and they do a few checks on you, and you have to declare everything you'll own and have an approved gun cabinet, and that's about it really. There are a lot of firearms in England, shooting is part of our culture, mainly shotguns though I think.

I've seen different positions where they teach you to hunker down to your rifle so you have a smaller body mass to be shot at. is that just for tactical situation uses only? and this position is more for accuracy?

That all depends on where you live though doesnt it? and I couldnt own a AR in England, you can only own one a single shot rifle or shotgun cant you? not mention you have to go to a gun club for a certain amount of time before applying or the chances are you'll be rejected or is that wrong? Obviously I'd want to go to a shooting range and such when I had free time but I wouldnt be able to go every weekend. How hard was it for you to get your FAC?

@jasongillette311910 жыл бұрын
It should be good to go right out of the box. (may need to sighted in depending on maker)
@undeadhunter510 жыл бұрын
You should clean it. No one knows how long the factory grease has been on it.
@ginicholas432210 жыл бұрын
It's not necessary to, some people just like cleaning it before they use it and many just don't like the amount of grease the factory put on the weapon. The length of time grease has been on the weapon shouldn't matter whether it's many years or months.
@undeadhunter510 жыл бұрын
GI Nicholas It shouldn't matter, but it does. Trust me.
@TheDistantEnd10 жыл бұрын
Some people like to clean and lubricate their new firearms, which allows them to inspect the parts and help pick out a lemon early. Things like a loose gas key, tight/ill fitting parts, etc. can be really noticeable before you even take it out to the range, so it's not a bad idea. My FN-15 Rifle was incredibly well-greased out of the box, I would have had no qualms taking it out to the range in that state. I still broke it down and cleaned it, just to see the quality of my new piece and learn all the contact points for lubrication (It's my first AR.)

He didn't really go into your forward hand on the handguard. You'd want to wrap your thumb (not rest the rifle on hand) as much as you can(he does this, but did not mention it). With most AR's this should not block your iron sights. With an AK you'll need to pull it back some to see the sights.

Okay. I am NOT Jerry Miculek. HOWEVER! I do have a couple million (yes, million) rounds down range with an AR15 style rifle. Since the AR15 has such low recoil, placing the buttstock of the rifle high and close to your neck (while wearing flak jackets) will keep your head erect and your eye relief repeatable. Jerry is obviously correct about his Action Shooting, and I'm not criticizing that. However, with lower recoil AR weapons you can _somewhat_ center the rifle on your body in this manner: Keep your trigger-arm elbow tucked way in, shoulders square with the target, and use a forward C-grip closer to the end of the hand guard. Feet should be shoulder width apart, with your lead foot half-way in front of your rear foot - both pointed at the target. Ass out, knees bent, back straight, shoulders forward, elbows in. That's the tactical-stance that military / police train with. Only applicable to low-recoil rifles.

This is not true entirely. Many European Nations allow firearms including the UK. The issue is that one must join a shooters hun club for pistol ownership or get a hunting permit for rifles. They just don't allow semi-auto rifles, though most do allow semi-auto pistols.
