As a musician for over 45 years, I can tell you that this actually happened at the old Red Dog Lounge in Freer, Texas in 1972. They had a chicken wire setup in front of the stage for Mexican bands that screwed up. We played there and at the end of the gig, a fight broke out and the lead guitar player and I hid behind the amps to get away from the beer bottles and glass and liquid coming our way. Then a pistol shot rang out and that's when all hell broke loose. What memories.

Hah! my first venture into a bar was somewhere in the boonies of the Adirondacks around Cranberry Lake, NY, in 2004, and they had wire there, too. I laughed so hard.

Dan Akroyd's "baby" has definitely ruined the original for me. It truly does belong there. Such a simple thing, but so profound and so perfect. I suppose that's what I get for going to see the Blues Brothers every day of summer when I was 10.

I guess 'son of a father who was born in, what, 65?' starter pack. (from Italy for me, I grew up with Shrek, blues Brothers, and army of darkness, for this last one my father made us watch it in English cause he didn't want us to learn bad words, and obviously as a child I completely didn't catch the comical part, started to see it at 13 I think lol).

This movie was really good when it came out, but now it's like a fine wine, with all the performers featured here that are no longer with us, it's aging beautifully. I recently introduced this movie to a kid born in this century and although he liked it, I think that it may be a while before he can fully appreciate the talent of these people. Edit update: So the kid, now 20 year old young man, I introduced this movie to all those years ago just told me that he was looking for this movie this year on DVD. I guess he liked it enough to see it again.

If I remember correctly Aykroyd and Belushi started the Blues Brothers Band as an SNL sketch at first but they became so populair they could ride the wave and since it was a legit passion project for Belushi and Akroyd they got some pretty big names together to form the band. Not gonna lie, I'm not familiar with most of them but I think that's still pretty awesome. The band in the movie and I think live shows(?) consisted of a lot of actual skilled veterans who played the song themselves. One thing I love about this movie is how the songs sound and feel so natural compared to a lot of other band related movies, makes me think they just gave a proper show and called it a scene. James Brown was notorious for always wanting to sing his songs live and in the moment and his scenes absolutely show his craftsmanship.
@pelofiromain3128

The duck is part of the creators of Southern soul. Al Jackson used to say that Duck Dunn and Cropper added a country flavored tone in Stax sound. Sure Duck Dunn perfectly knew country music. One of the best that walk on Earth. As for me, the bass line here is perfect. Laid back, with a hell of a taste. He was not a "blues musician", but a southern musician...and above all a wonderful musician.

lyrics Sometimes it's hard to be a woman Giving all your love to just one man And if you love him, oh be proud of him 'Cause after all he's just a man. Stand by your man, give him two arms to cling to And something warm to come to When nights are cold and lonely. Stand by your man, and tell the world you love him Keep giving all the love you can. Stand by your man. Stand by your man, and show the world you love him Keep giving all the love you can. BBY Stand by your man.
