So I totally read what I wanted to read; "Hellinistic Classicism" read "Helenism" in my head until you actually read it out loud. Here I thought you were quoting something our dear Helen Wang once said. The sticker with the black hair helped make the connection. Now I'm laughing at myself.

I can relate to hyperfixation moments. I'm similar in that if I'm reading and I find something I don't know or that I'm unsure of, I stop reading to research the item. I fall in rabbit holes. Thank you for sharing! ❤

Just people mentioning being ABD triggers my PTSD 🤣 5 years and a field shift later I'm still having those feelings about my PhD. (The guilt I built up being clueless about my ADHD over all the missed deadlines and stuff I just couldn't wrap my head around is insane.) I'm so glad you're almost done! Yeepeee!

I love seeing your academic musings on paper. Do you keep more of your "actual notes" in a safe place like on obsidian? And these pages are just your inner thoughts after reading?
@theoryof.lauren22 күн бұрын
thank you so much!! yes I have a separate research notebook that i try to keep the bulk of my dissertation related research in. I also have a lot of reading notes on specific books housed in notion. these pages in my TN are just my own thoughts about the readings i am doing for "fun" :)

Original CBT (before Mindfulness became a component) is very similar to Stoicism in that it's heavily focused on thinking and addressing fallacies of thought. Gary Emery wrote a very good book called "Own Your Own Life" that I found interesting because it didn't include any emphasis on Mindfulness that's almost synonymous with midern CBT books. I enjoyed the flip through and your notes on what you've found interesting.

some of your notes got me thinking back on my undergrad studies/writings of (brown) queerness as spectacle (particularly ballroom/drag culture) and man do i wanna go re-read a lot of things now haha back into that rabbit hole also my class on affect was such a wild ride, do you have any favorite books/texts about affect? just out of curiosity JuBu is so smart and literally breaks my brain sometimes but its worth the (sometimes slow for me to understand) reading
@theoryof.laurenКүн бұрын
ahhhh thats such a fascinating topic!!! for affect, I love the cultural politics of emotion by sara ahmed and the ordinary affects by kathleen stewart. also affect-adjacent but i love cautiously hopeful by marie carrière!! also have you ever seen the film paris is burning???

What is your research and dissertation focused on? I remember those days, it’s stressful and exciting all at the same time. My doctorate is in Social Work.

Great video . being a mental health counselor in training, your quest reading about cbt caught my attention. May I ask which type of white pen you use for your headers,? Just subscribe too.
@theoryof.laurenКүн бұрын
thank you so much! i use a tombow fudenosuke brush pen for all the black headers!

I’ve always wondered about your black with white labels or headings - are those stickers or your writing? If so, what pen do you use because it looks great!
@theoryof.laurenКүн бұрын
they are my own writing!! i just use a tombow fudenosuke hard tip for the black part and then a white gelly roll in 0.8 for the white writing overtop :)
