Sir Can you elaborate more on Steady as She goes and Steady command?

Well, when you receive a command "Steady as she goes", you should repeat a command and tell the course noted on compass in time of this command - like "Steady as she goes, course 012 degrees", and then try to steer that course, if you swung more( like it still goes 013,014, 015..), you should come back to 012. When you got it , report "Steady on course 012" When you receive a command "Steady", you should repeat "Steady", and try to stop swinging, when it stopped, rate of turn ROT=0, you note a course you are on and report "Steady on course 015", for example. So, the difference is that in case of "Steady as she goes" the pilot ask you to steer exact course in that moment, but asking you to note it by this command( probably, the pilot is away from compass and make navigation visually), in case of "Steady" you just stop swinging , note the course you head on and say to pilot. (pilot can give this command, probably, when predicting at what course the ship will stop). So, shortly "Steady as she goes"- you make a course noted when command is given, "Steady"- you stop swinging and get a course to steer. But, sometimes they both can mean the same, in most cases the command "Steady" is used, and helmsman just repeats a command and then after ship stopped swing - says the course.

Order starboard 15 then ordered again port 15 what shoul i do?

Hi, just follow his orders. If pilot said "starboard 15", and you start to turn the wheel to "stbd 15", and then pilot immediately said "port 15", then immediately stop turning to "stbd 15"(wherever the wheel is in this moment), and go to "port 15" , so you have to do the last thing he said - port 15, but always repeat his order loudly so the pilot understands what you are doing. From what I understand, the pilot just got the side wrong, and quickly corrected the order. It happens.

Hi, you have to do the last thing he said - "port 5", but always repeat his order loudly so the pilot understands what you are doing. From what I understand, the pilot just got the side wrong, and quickly corrected the order. It happens.

One can only guess what the pilot had in mind, as this is not a standard order. Perhaps in his haste he simply combined the two orders, or maybe he just wanted the order "steady as she goes" to be executed with a slight rudder movement.

Hi! Probably, if pilot says you so, he means to turn the wheel easly to port until his next order. He can stop you at any moment in this case, because he is monitoring ship"s turning speed, and not sure to give you command "port 5" or "Hard to port"
