I've read and watched quite a few keezer builds. You've done a fantastic job of keeping it quick and simple. With the simple step of hanging an Inkbird on the back of the collar and running the thermometer into the chest, you'd have a complete and practical lesson.

Great looking build, however leaving the original hinges on the lid and attaching those to the collar is so much easier and cleaner. Then you retain the same spring tension that holds the lid open and pulls it closed. Also...friends don't let friends use hose clamps, duotight is the way for a modern keezer build. And for those of us who do a little woodworking a pocket hole jig is the easy way to hide the screws inside the collar and make finishing a breeze. I routed my gas through a hole in the collar to leave room for an extra keg! Even if it's not on tap it's nice to have room for an in-keg ferment to cold crash or for an untapped serving keg to be carbonating until it's time.

Nicely done! Wood working tip: if you mark the board and then drill a small pilot hole through the board then come back with your 1" bit, you can start drilling from the back part way through and then finish from the front. This leaves a much cleaner hole and works with pretty much anything you're going to cut wood with.

Need to get you some handles that you can label what it is for gatherings. They can be pricey though. I wanna say I paid $24 a handle for mine, but I also got the ones that I could put my logo on.

Get yourself a carpenters square. It will make locating the holes for the taps a lot easier than using a tape.

Skim the wood next time with a wood filler and sand it all smooth. Then paint. It will make the grain disappear and make it look very smooth. It doesnt add a lot of extra time all in all.

by the way, I saw the "version" of kitchen aid on the floor in the garage..... let me guess... it stripped! did you fix it? how? I used JB Weld, and still works today, otherwise thought of drilling a hole.

I think its just straight water he runs CO2 through. He made a video recently of soda flavorings so I think it's just water.

I'm surprised the cable to the lid was long enough, bonus points for the easy conversion! For my keezer I had to unplug that cord, but fortunately (I guess) it's not as fancy as yours and that cable just powers the internal light.

@14:32 when mounting the manifold. sometimes, with some models, the flush against the back of the collar might be too tight of a fit for the gas lines, where they might hit the top of the keezer body. Using another piece of wood between the collar and manifold as a shim, is an easy way of fixing that issue.

I'm rebuilding my keezer now due to it unexpectedly dying on me... I had originally cut holes in my lid and run a pipe as a tap bar. This time , I'm building it like this method with the taps coming through the collar. As an FYI to others, the height of the wood collar, either from a 2x4, 2x6, 2x8, or even 2x10, will determine if a full size/5 gallon korny keg can fit on the compressor hump. I believe in most cases 2x8 is the right size, but it may vary based on the size of the hump and dimensions of the freezer I chose to run my CO2 tank outside to have some space inside the keezer where the tanks aren't touching each other... and I run 2 tanks, with the second one being nitro for cold brew coffee, both wouldn't fit anyway...

I was considering putting the CO2 tank outside, but it wouldn’t buy me a comfortable space for a fourth keg, so I opted against it. The diameter of my CO2 tank is just a bit smaller than a keg. 😓

So if you don't mind drilling into the freezer to don't need a collar? I thought the collar was for clearance issues with the kegs.

If you drill into the freezer you run the risk of drilling right through one of your coolant coils and ruining the whole freezer. You could drill through the lid and put a tap assembly on top, but that’s clunky and often messy. The collar only counts for additional keg clearance if you actually /need/ additional keg clearance. With really short lines you'll need to dial back the pressure on the regulator quite a bit to get slower pours. I think I use like a 6ft line at least with 10psi gauge pressure. Also while not immediately necessary, do yourself a favor and invest in some antimicrobial lines. Welcome to the club

i like this setup, but $500 for a new freezer seems kinda high. might as well just buy a kegerator at that point cuz youre not saving much money.

Should look into picking up more regulators instead of that 1 4-out manifold. You can then control the pressure to each keg individually vs just having a static on/off (something like a high carbed hefe in 1 keg and a lower carbed porter in another).
