at 5:00 you said that the guy in south africa can turn the SBLC into cash buy using it as collateral. so if the sblc is worth 100 mil, the banks gives him 4x 400 mil. Why would the bank risk so much by giving him more than what the collateral is worth?

Because the bank can deposit that 100mil get 10x - $1b which can be put to work for one year

⁠​⁠@@Taimour-zaman-altfunds-globalhis is strange - you have a $100m SBLC on the other side as guarantee (blocked funds) which only matures in 1yr 1 day. The beneficiary bank doesn’t receive this money yet in the transaction, but then they give 4 X multiples. That is 4 x $100m = $400m. Why would a bank take such risk of loaning $400m against a $100m transaction. Then if he competes the transaction in SA, receives the $100m in a years time, then he’s probably -$300m deficit. No bank would do this. Even in inflationary times $100m would have had some depreciation before maturity date. Also, you get $100m per month for 10 months = $1bn (only on an immature $100m which still hasn’t been paid yet by issuing bank). It would be great if you could provide some clarity. Something is really amiss here.
