Wow!!!! I taught English to this man from 1973 - 1974 when I worked one year at a highschool in Hildesheim, Germany. He was a wonderful student with beautiful handwriting. He also had a fantastic sense of humour. So happy that he has this amazing career and gorgeous voice

No matter the the amount of pain in any realm; physical, mental, sociological; if you have a real talent and choose to work with it and put in time you will prevail. I have no idea if this man is making a living as a singer but he does a hell of a job anyway.
@leitfie3579 Жыл бұрын
He made a living as an internationally famous singer, one of the most distinguished bass-baritones in the world. Eventually, when he was over 50, he moved from classical repertoire to jazz singing, from which, by the look of it, he takes enormous pleasure - and he still sings to very enthusiastic audiences.

This was the only time I took to a vocalist on this song. I think it's one of the most beautiful songs known to man. But a solo piano player gave it its fullest beauty, I thought. Then I heard this fellow, who I knew nothing about. Assumed nothing. And it's so beautiful.

This orchestration is such a great example of the time in which Offenbach lived and wrote. It is an example of art song meets theatre. While I agree with zrshwe, I find this to be interesting and warm - especially with the mellow brass. It is reminiscent of Mahler's orchestrations.

Quasthoff is a good solid lieder singer but, in all honesty, people let their generosity of spirit get the better of their rational minds and overrate everything he does. The same phenomenon afforded Andrea Bocelli a career. ...hate replies incoming ...who am I kidding, no one listens to classical music anymore :-)
@davehshs6516 жыл бұрын
+Ben Copeland Please don't put Quasthoff in the same category as Bocelli just because each has a handicap. Quasthoff has one of the finest bass-baritone voices of *any* singer around.
@lucianacantares15 жыл бұрын
Bullshit!
@johnvant79845 жыл бұрын
Ben Copeland nobody listens to classical music? That is the most incorrect thing I’ve ever heard, more and more people listen to classical! It may not seem like it because of the terrible mainstream music that is out, and it seems like everybody likes it. But to say classical music is never listened to is just not correct! It’s more popular now than years ago, people are starting to see how good music can be rather than this, monotone lyrics about death and violence and sex, over a trap beat that is popular right now!
@frogmouth3 жыл бұрын
I would not put Quasthoff and Bocelli in the same category. (Bocelli does far more crossover stuff.) Quasthoff has done some jazz. But his Dichterliebe with Helen G and his Bach cantata work put him securely into serious classical contention as a singer and not just a curiosity with a nice voice .
@jjlungdoc74723 жыл бұрын
Quasthoff deserves more respect than being mentioned along Bocelli. It would be like comparing Elvis to Segovia or Horowitz to Liberace. Please!
@wrtölp3578 Жыл бұрын
