What an absolutely stunning video. So glad that Colin enjoyed it and congratulations to Shaun for steering through, your concentration must have been spot on. Now for the interesting bit, or maybe not, back in the mid 1960s I was a member and for a short while Secretary of the Dudley Canal Tunnel Preservation Society, forerunner of the Dudley Canal Trust, a group of Canal enthusiasts who campaigned to keep the tunnel open when it was threatened with closure. It was of course at that time the longest and deepest navigable tunnel on the network as Standedge was officially closed. One of the ways in which we raised funds was to take the public on trips through the tunnel using an un-powered BCN dayboat and I have many memories of legging the boat through The crew usually took it in turns but on more that one occasion I legged solo for all 3172 yards quire a feat I can tell you. Hope you find these fact interesting keep the videos coming.

Only 917 comments. Thank you for that brilliant piece of history.hard to imagine all of those tunnels beneath the mountains. Harder still to imagine the vision of the engineers and relevant companies hundreds of years ago. Imagine the fortitude and skill the underground workers had to construct travel services still in use 200 years later. There is a proud and elegant but practical beauty in it all. I wonder what the people would say if it were possible to bring them back to see the structures they created 200 years ago. You had some brilliant vlogs and this one is up with your best!

Brilliant vlog, Colin! Just a really top-notch production! Filled with information, exceptionally well-photographed and edited, and the music blended nicely with the visuals to set the proper mood. You, sir, are really good at this! Cheers.

I was spellbound by this video. If I ever get to the UK again, going through this amazing tunnel - and a hike up to that memorial and the air vent - will be on my list of must do's. Your history about this tunnel is so good that my daughter and I will use this video in our homeschooling of my grandson. Excellent work by you both! Much respect sent your way!

Wow! Praise indeed. I'm blown away by the comments our video is getting today. Thank you so much! If you ever come back to the UK and we're around, call for tea and cake! x

@@FoxesAfloat Thanks, I will keep that in mind! No plans yet, so it will be a while. Want to see my family in Norway again before these bones get too old! By the way, my grandson (the ten years old Asberger's) LOVED this video. He was also spellbound and in total awe; he grabbed my laptop from me and put it in his lap to see better. Extra thumbs up for you being great 5th grade history teachers. :-)

My husband and I really enjoyed watching this video, especially because of the detailed history you provided. Your vlogs always manage to transport us from our home in Dayton, Ohio to the fascinating canal system of the UK. Maybe one we'll be able to experience it for real.

You should try it, it's amazing! Even better if you get some nice weather. Not so much fun in the cold, wind and rain (which we're getting a lot of at the moment). Thanks for a lovely comment. Sending love to Dayton, Ohio! x

Thank you for the wonderful videos - the quality is top notch sometimes I feel like I'm right there with you instead of the steaming hot box that is Tallahassee Florida.

Haha! Raining, windy, cold here so that steam box sounds attractive today 😂

Fantastic vlog boys, I saw Martin Zeros vlog on the tunnels & was hoping someone would do a video on the actual canal tunnel, blown away by the work done years ago, can only imagine the conditions they worked in. Keep up the great work, just watched Martins video this morning when he joined you boys aboard, I reckon he would have loved doing this tunnel with you. Safe travels.

He would, and it's a pity we couldn't take him through with us. With the CRT chaperone and the two of us there was nobody else allowed onboard.

Thanks, guys, that was just so amazing. Really enjoyed how you made a full production about it, the sneaky trip through the connecting tunnels, the hike up to one of the air holes, the background story, the old images. WOW. Won't be long and you can show Mr Professional, David Johns, @CruisingTheCut, how to do a Vlog. It was just so fascinating seeing all the structures inside the tunnel, the brickwork, the patched walls, even the Checkpoint. By the way, did you suggest that a C&RT person travelled with you? I think you said it was for a 'Chaperone' to report that you had made it safely so far? Guys, you have outdone yourself! That was just such a great video, a Thumbs Up seems such a little form of recognition for such an enthralling show. Please keep them coming and when you get a chance, please give us a Special episode like this one. Cheers and thanks again.

Hey 👋 Thank you! David has a very different style to us, and as much as he prefers his cardigan and slippers approach, we're much more excitable! 😂 Yeah, the CRT chaperone travels with anyone going through the tunnel as a safety precaution,. They know the tunnels well and can help if an emergency occurs. Thanks for a lovely comment! x

Thank you for recognizing and appreciating the labors of generations past, those who built the tunnels and "leg-powered" the barges through the tunnel in days past.

Hi Colin and Shaun,I can see that the both of you have a serious abundance of free time on your hands,I'm totally in awe of your amazing lifestyle, especially when it comes to your fantastic cruising antics along the canal, the difference places that you frequent ,while on your extremely brilliant journey ,just love the cheeky expression on Shaun's face,,he has such a infectious laugh, when ever you are being serious about the topic that you are talking about,he giggles all the way through your well schooled historical facts, which is so captivating,in my opinion Your a fantastic canal historian, carry on cruising guys, and stay safe,

Thanks, Anthony! I wouldn't say we have an abundance of free time. It takes me a week to film, then a week to edit each vlog, so I don't have much free time.
