Probably the best academic books I've ever read (Im talking about the compilation book, still didnt had the chance to read the 5 volumes biography). Mr Frank did just a gigantic, monumental job on explaining why Dostoevsky became who he was and why he is so valuable for the world and especially for Orthodox people.

Great observation of Dostoevsky's skill at creating a dramatic plot structure with a sophisticated theme. Not many people identify that fundamental attribute of Dostoevsk's works.

Reading Dr Frank's abridged version of Dostoevsky's bio now. It is abridged and still almost 1,000 pages, oh but it's a page turner! And I'm discovering things that I did not see when reading Dostoevsky's works. It's also very easy to read! His bio on Dostoevsky is a masterpiece of itself.

I like Dostoevsky , his redemption in his way is so shocking that god has conversed with us in every possible form to say that you all got me wrong. But in literature Dostoevsky never gives up in psychology mourning loving his criminals and convince his readers by finally setting them free.

There will be essentially human issues to plague us for as long as we remain human in our foibles and conflicts, Writers write in order to map these issues out from their own purview as a string of words impressing an image within (yin -yang-wise) and to move on, hopefully, gaining a vantage point on an ever changing terrain. Silence is golden...

Which translation in English would be best to get closest to the original Russian text of his novels? Preferably ‘Crime...’ but I’ll take any recommendations. Are Wordsworth classics diluted down?

@akakiakakiovich When you say is "he" a best seller and hard to read, are you referring to Dostoevsky or Joseph Frank? Joseph Frank is book "Dostoevsky: A writer in his time" is definitely written in a narrative style that is interesting and can be easily read. However, one may find Dostoevsky challenging particularly because of his references to outside texts. You may find it helpful to read supplementary literature in addition to a Dostoevsky novel :) Hope that helps!
