Thank you for finding the remaining beautiful Victorian stone buildings that I remember from my childhood even though the cheap shop fronts appear to dominate ...there is still a chance to bring back some history. At Joseph’s Church standing intact and even older brick walls bring me home again. My father’s space tucked under the happy Card shop at least still has foundations. How extraordinary the powerful County directors have not recognised this wonderful place just needed support rather than useless change. I will pray for a saviour of the wonderful mining communities that I grew up with from 1935 till now

Grew up in Stanley, left in 2008. The imperial hotel (the clock) and the top house were always jam packed at weekend when I used to drink there in the late 90s. Great times. Shame it’s all closed now. Thanks for the vid 👌

The boarded-up Stanley Hotel (the Top House) has since been refurbished and reopened. It remains the sole surviving pub in Stanley town centre where there once used to be six

How sad to see my hometown like this. When I lived there in 90s it was a busy frontstreet. 😢😢😢

So sad when you think it was a thriving little town. It's now had the life sucked out of it 😢. Again lack of investment

@@UKHIGHDEFINITIONWALKS I've always liked Stanley, the place and the people. The dinners in the Clock (the Imperial) when Mr.Pendelton had it where legendary. The Essoldo cinema, the old market hall where you could buy pet rabbits and kittens, the music stall sold guitars, sheet music, the latest records. Doggarts store, there used to be independant shops on both sides of Front Street. Council Offices Boarded up and looking delapidated .My late father was Chief Financial Officer (Treasurer) of Stanley Uban District Council from 1945- 1974.
