I use a BLOCK sharpener, draw it thru 20 times or so, straup it a few times and it's razor sharp. Real quick.

That is a fine way to keep a knife sharp! 👍✌

Lynn O. Doughty & you have inspired me to try out the Stanley No 199. Cheaper than a $50 carving knife, that's for sure.

Thanks. Lynn's work is amazing. Give the 199 a go, just touch up the blade a bit to get it whittling sharp.

You are obviously very talented. As a newcomer to carving, however, it was very difficult for me to follow along with what you were doing due to the speeded up video. I’d much rather watch a normal speed video that allows me to process the steps you are taking to carve this great piece of art.

Thanks for the comment. I agree about the video speed; my newest videos are done at normal speed. Soon I will redo this carving and post a normal speed.

What blades have you found that work best for carving ??? Can you do detailed work when carving ??? How often do you have to strop whither your preferred utility blades???
@WhittlingWoods2 жыл бұрын
Robert - I use Lenox brand blades. Yes you can achieve some good detail, there a some carver that doing amazing work with the old Stanley. I strop often about every 10 - 15 minutes.

Probably not as easy as it looks, especially because of the size. Love watching though and looks great! Have to give it a try.
