Absolutely every single person involved with this is a hero to me. I saw T2 when I was 6, and it remains one of the films that most captivated my imagination as a kid. Even seeing all the specifics here of how it was done still looks _so good_ that it doesn't make the end result any less magical. It really is a testament to the hard work and ingenuity that everyone poured in to this project. Thanks for sharing such neat looks into the specifics here on the channel. It's great to see all these things and get a sense of the work behind the scenes.

Good it had an impact but why would your parents let you watch a 15 or 18 rated film at age 6?!?!

I was young also when I saw the film. It was because I liked SF films (my mother hated them, but she loves me more, so took me to this film) and at that time in our country we didn't knew anything about age ratings (of course some films were not allowed for kids, but mainly adult films).@@sideparting6845

interesting to learn effects like the blade finger had practical aspects to them as they manifest with CG. I guess that's why the effects look so good, the CG was used mainly to morph between practical elements rather than replace them.

The sheer dedication not just to the quality of the film itself, but also The T-1000 as a unique and memorable character through the use of hardwork, practical effects, and for its time, considerably groundbreaking CGI, will never cease to be something truly marvelous. You've also got to love the strangely endearing 'designations', so to speak, given to the effects. Hehe, Pretzel Man.

more than 30 years have passed and this movie still doesn't even look outdated. in fact, i think this movie still looks better than half of modern cgi these days.
@freddiegibbs101Ай бұрын
Let's be honest, it's more than half, in fact it's closer to "all" than "half". Today, all this work is just thrown into a computer for pure CGI; a modern studio could spend 10x the budget to re-create T2 shot-for-shot with CGI (the T-1000, helicopter chase, etc.) and it would look like shit by comparison to these physical models and actual stunts.

Watching this and couple of other videos i realised this movie was a product of passionate individuals coming together to truly bring to life something never before seen on screen. That's why they achieved what they did 30 years ago and it can still give modern cgi in some movies a run for its money.

Despite all the incredible effects and monstrous imagery in the original two Terminator films, it is the chase sequences with a Mac-truck that really haunted my dreams. The idea of a relentless killing machine willing to go to absolutely any lengths including its own destruction in order to ensure a murder! Terrifying. The juxtaposition of Arnold and Linda and the cast of both films and the excellent score and direction as well as the incredible effects really just brought that idea home for me even more. Stan Winston School stands among the giants of the Industry. Period.

This is how it should always be done. Good practical effects blended with good CGI *only* when necessary. Many films nowadays rely too heavily on CGI and look bad most of the time or just outright unbelievable. So much better when you can tell there is actually something in front of the camera in a movie. 🎥 Amazing how Terminator 2, a film from 1991, still looks far superior to many films nowadays.

For the "cleave man effect”, what was done with Patrick’s real arm, behind the arm that was the appliance? Did he have to pull his shoulder back to hide his real arm? When I pause the video at 2:08, it almost looks like he might have had his arm hidden down his pant leg, but I’m not sure.
@StanWinstonSchool Жыл бұрын
Hi Stephen! Christopher Swift sculpted a foam rubber body appliance that was vacumetalized in the center liquid metal splash area. That appliance was then pressed firmly against Robert Patrick’s body to simulate his right shoulder and side while the actor bent his real shoulder and side backward.
