When you think of Rusty Wallace, Midnight is THE car. From 1992 to 1994, merely uttering the world “Midnight” in the NASCAR garage was enough to strike fear in the hearts of drivers and teams. During that span, Wallace and Midnight simply dominated the NASCAR circuit. Together, they captured an astonishing 13 wins (41.9%), 25 top-five finishes (80.6%) and 27 top-ten (87.1%) finishes in a 31-race span, as well as leading 3,918 of 12,001 possible laps (31.4%) during the period. The legendary Wallace was elected to the NASCAR Hall of Fame on his first ballot in 2013. Upon his election, Wallace’s eldest son, Greg, headed an effort-with support from Penske Racing, MillerCoors and Ford Motor Company-to restore Midnight to its 1994 trim for Rusty’s NASCAR Hall of Fame exhibit. A conversion from Midnight’s 1998 Ford Taurus body, back to its 1994 Ford
Thunderbird skin and its iconic Miller Genuine Draft livery was thus undertaken by a group of former Penske Racing employees.
Afterward, Midnight rightfully appeared on static display at the NASCAR Hall of Fame-as the centerpiece of Wallace’s induction exhibit-before returning to his personal collection. The car has subsequently been returned to its 1994 “race-ready” condition. It features an authentic, period correct Ford “C3” engine, built on an actual Penske Racing block, producing approximately 750 horsepower.

Man, I sat in this car on April 4th 1993, tears in my eyes, celebrating Rusty's win and still devastated by Kulwicki's death. They were my favorite two drivers at the time, and when Alan left us, Rusty came out and won Bristol in his honor three days later. I was ten years old at the time and it wrecked me to lose my favorite driver. I'd met both of them numerous times growing up, and when we found Rusty in the pits, he was more than happy to let me sit in it, same as Alan had the year prior after his win. This car will always hold a very special meaning in my heart. Thank you for this video and for bringing back these memories.

Oh yeah, I remember hearing about Alan's plane crash the night it happened on late night T.V. out on the west coast. Talk about another of life's kicks in the stomach from the past. My mom became a reluctant nascar fan back then because of my dedication of watching since 84 with Ford becoming a force to reconned with again, she was in tears that night....so sad.....and then a few months later we lost Davey.

Best NASCAR stuff I’ve seen in a long time. No one gave better post race interviews than Rusty especially when he was pissed. This is coming from an Earnhardt guy. So many reasons why NASCAR isn’t big anymore to fans of the sport of this era (90’s) that I won’t even attempt it in this comment section. Just to bring up one point: would be the uniqueness of “Midnight” vs the what NASCAR has done to the cars over the last 15 or so years.

This was my favorite era of the sport. Ricky Rudd, Geoff Bodine, Dale Sr., Jeff Gordon, Rusty, Mark, Harry Gant, Alan, Davey, DW, Ernie, Dale Jarrett, Kyle Petty... All those names and they were all capable of getting on a hot streak at any moment. We had Ford, Buick, Pontiac, Olds and Chevy on track and it was a much more visually diverse field with 5 brands of car racing at once. Aero was there, but it wasn't overwhelming. We had a ton of power and something that resembled a suspension with what approximated to adjustments lol. And it was the best racing I ever saw... I can still remember watching TNN and Mike Joy would say, "This week Team Penske brought Midnight..." And I'd always look at my dad as a Dale Sr. fan and say, "So, looks like second place will be good this week..."

I was born in 91 my dad was a huge rusty fan which in turn made me a rusty fan as soon as I was able to learn all bout nascar this car was so iconic to me and my father. Father passed away in 2019 and was still wearing one of his many rusty hats till he was cremated. Still love being able to see the man my father idoled. Reminds me all the wins we watched rusty get together in the living room.

You got him to get into the car. Man to be a fly on the head wall as he was going through that. Just wow to capture him doing that. Rusty is the man. And you're the man for getting him to do that. He'll never know the impact he had on my life. I started racing because of him, all my paint schemes were of his cars, I studied and developed his racing characteristics as my own, which helped me win a lot and copied the way he was out of the car with fans. He's the next best inspiration right behind my Dad.

I remember around 1990 when Rusty, Dale, and Ernie came to Rusty's Pontiac dealership here in Morristown and getting their autograph. That's when he first started talks with the owners to become a partner and now they have 10 or 11 dealerships between here and Knoxville. I remember how Ernie Irvan stayed until the last person in line got to meet him, just a dang nice guy. Rusty hung in there for a while also but Dale was the last one to arrive and the first one to leave but I'm sure he was a busy man and would rather be at Bristol than signing autographs. Rusty was always my favorite drivers because he had a connection to Morristown and still does today. Ernie was also one of my favorites. I really enjoy your videos, really takes me back to a time when everyone in the South was a NASCAR fan, I just can't get into it any longer and I wished I could but it's not the same.

I miss those old days of racing. I can remember back in 92 I started getting curious about NASCAR and watched some races but it had not quite grabbed me yet. I was a GM guy and really liked that #3 but didn't know anything about the drivers but heard of them. I have family from the south who were into it and friends but didn't pay much attention at the time. In June of 93 my brother in-law called me and asked if I wanted to go to the race someone had backed out and I said sure.It was the Budweiser 500 in Dover. Dale won the race and I was hooked! Many I knew were Rusty and Mark Martin fans and we were constantly on each other . The races were epic with these drivers and its a time long past and sad that it is. I miss the whole atmosphere from back then. I miss watching Rusty and Dale race each other. Sadly I have no interest in it anymore and have not in years. Thanks for posting!

Ran across Kenny "Herman" Wallace on KZbin by accident; love your videos. I first saw Rusty at the Banquet 300 @ Sonoma Sears Point Raceway in June 1989. He came in 2nd to Ricky Rudd that day but give Rusty another lap and he would have had him!! I have been a loyal fan ever since. Rusty was great at short tracks and killer on the road courses. The newer NASCAR drivers are NOT the same as the drivers from the 70's to the mid 90's. For one thing, many of the older drivers knew how to work on their cars so they ultimately were able to better communicate with the crew chiefs. Please keep making these videos.

Seeing and hearing Rusty crack that throttle a bit just made my whole day. He did it because you asked him to get in it. His face and comments were genuine, and you tell how much he misses the show. Although not as technical, this was the best video yet for me. I LOVE that car and who isn't a Rusty Wallace fan? Mitchell, Logan thank you for everything you do and please keep doing it! @@Stapleton42 @BigfootSOH; A. Certainly for Rusty Wallace to have the opportunity to run a full lap at a significant speed, as per he is still comfortable along with the vehicle would certainly be excellent, great, exciting, delightful for Rusty, all in attendance, viewing live, recorded, including an video recording inside the vehicle and then including a pre- and post interview especially with Rusty of, with, about the experience. B. as for the sound and the effects: -1. each individual that has experienced any combustion engine motor vehicle, especially those with high performance and power, with direct, open headers, pipes, knows the extent of the power including the lower frequency of the sound(s), which are pressure waves, includes those sensed, felt, by the pressure, and actually not heard. -2. a quality audio system speaker will reproduce the lower frequency range down to 20 Hz from the larger, woofer speaker, usually a minimum of 10 inches in diameter -3. a proper sub-woofer speaker reproduces pressure waves including below 20 Hz to 8-10 Hz, which are only sensed by 'feel', never sound. -4. such any computer [PC, laptop, notebook, device] does not have the electronics to support below 20 Hz and certainly not even close to any proper lower frequency range including any attached external speakers since the woofer speakers are limited in size -5. similarly these limitation exist within every headphones-speakers, and much more so with earphone-buds., though some have means to transmit lower frequencies via bone induction. C. Thus, affects, effect, and damage with any such speakers attached to a computer via its electronics are not actually sub-woofers, poor woofers and easily damaged by such low frequencies, unless there is a sufficient, proper filter appropriate to, with the speaker woofer, to reduce the very low range low enough to prevent damage. D. Another product which is commonly improperly labeled, mislabeled, falsely promoted, marketed, sold under false pretenses, claims, etc. -> just as all 'major', minor, store brands of engine oils -> all produced by the same Int'lConglomerate =StndOil;Penzoil,Mobil,Exxon,Valvoline,Motul,Castol,Shell,Kendall,QuakerState,Texaco,Sunoco,ARCo,Chevron,Unocal,Marathon,BP,Total, etc. Do You notice and see clearly with this Penske Team, "Miller Genuine Draft" primary sponsored vehicle, "Midnight" NASCAR, the other major sponsors including Ford, Detroit Diesels, Mobil1 (not Penzoil - though the same Int'lCorp) and all the other sponsors with smaller decals ??!! Remember, that Roger Penske was with Pontiac, GM previously, and just the year prior won more races than the follow with this Ford sponsorship vehicle, as Rusty stated explicitly , recorded and included in this video !! ->then the Roger Penske stayed with Ford [in NASCAR - not Indy] switched from Mobil1 [the only major brand synthetic then] to Penzoil and continues, thou they never used either nor still as with other sponsorship products, except the base for the engines !! All The Best Sincerely
