It's Mike Cameron, I worked for NAPA during the NAPA heyday. NAPA got more exposure from Ron than anything else we ever did. He got about 25% of what Michael got as far as sponsorship goes. I knew Ron personally I orally and did get invited to the motor home for steak.

Oh hell yes. This video is another great example of the rich NASCAR history out there! I can remember vividly in the early to mid-1980's watching Ron Hornaday race his late model modified car out at Saugus Speedway in Saugus, CA, just a local 3/8 mile asphalt oval, but he jumped right into some hellacious battles on the track Friday or Saturday nights between competitors there! Never a dull moment. This guy was always a natural driving anything, won his fair share of trophy dashes, and a well-spoken guy on top of that too. A good friend of mine was on the pit crew up there at the speedway at that time, so we always got tickets to the races, maybe the occasional pit pass or 1st-hand info on the latest scuttlebutt & such, those were damn good times, me being in my mid-20's then(almost your age now, Mitch)and a huge crazy streak combined with the need for speed and love of anything motorsports related. It was f'n' badass! Thank you Mitch & Logan for another outstanding production with this video, right there with you guys and appreciating this stuff all the way! You rock!

Always had greatest respect for Ron H... he was the quintessential every man racer who got a shot and made the most of it. Heck of a race car driver... So story time... back in 1993 Dunn Benson Ford brought his buddy Jack Sprague to our local track in Robersonville NC to claim a 5K bounty on late model driver Jim Kelly that we built engines for.... We had won like 14 straight races there. The regular driver for Dunn Benson ran 2nd or 3rd every week and they had the best stuff money could buy for the time. We got a call from Doug Y (their engines came from Eatmon and they were tight with the Yates origination through their Bush engine development) that they had gone and got Jack to come drive their car and beat us... At any rate it was a big deal but in the end he didn't get it done and finished a very close 2nd.... After 20 straight, they just paid Jim the bounty to stay home one night...LoL. The Dunn Benson guys were so mad. Now Jack was true gentlemen, drove us clean and shook our hands that night but there was word Dunn Benson were gonna get another nationally known driver to come and drive that car... Ron H's name was one of a few that were mentioned in the next few weeks.... which really would have been awesome as I was and still am a huge fan of his but, after talking with a friend in the known he said that would never happen because Ron probably wouldn't ever drive a Ford...Ron was running awesome in the SW Tour that year and truthfully probably just didn't have time but it would have been awesome if they could have bought him to try and outrun us that season. Awesome interview thanks for getting him on.

Way back in the late 50's or early 60's we used to go to Saugus speedway to watch the races and his dad was one of the drivers. Someone I went with was friends of the Hornadays and would chear him on. They would meet on the infield after the races. I was pretty young then so the memory is foggy now. I saw a Saugus speedway picture on the wall in this video and it jogged my memory.

Ron Horniday has always been one of my favorite Truck Series Drivers, I'd see him occasionally in NASCAR NW Tour (Late Model) & Winston West races at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe WA before the Truck Series started.......Ron is in a class like Kenny 'Special K' Shrader and Kenny Wallace, Guys who love working on their stuff as well!

Dale more or likely doesn't come up with his plan for one of his drivers to win at Daytona, and finishes yet another 500 in a long and happy career. Wins the '01 championship to beat out Richard Petty for an 8th and final championship, gains a few more wins, and retires in 2003 to pursue road course racing at LeMans and elsewhere with his own Corvette division of DEI. Junior wins the 500 and a couple championships, and continues to drive for his father's team, now the flagship team for Chevrolet in NASCAR. What could have been...

As a kid in the 90's my dad was a manager at the local Napa store so Ron was my favorite driver when I first got into racing. Years later when he drove for Harvick got me back into the truck series! Ron was and always will be my favorite truck driver!

After Kyle was suspended from all remaining events ,that seasons Kevin backed off. I think Ron might have driven sooner and drive a Toyota that late in his career if offered. By the time KBM switched to Chevy Ron needed a billionaire Daddy to run trucks. JMO

…..my father raced Ron Hornaday Sr. @ Saugus Speedway in Newhall California, practically every weekend, in the Late Model division back in the early seventies. “Wild” Bill Foster, Tru Cheek, Jimmy Insolo, Sonny Easely, and Jim Thirkettle to name a few of the many drivers across the five different race divisions there. My father’s name was J. R. Skinner and raced a 58 Ford Fairlane as did Ron Sr. at the time. Ron Sr. ran at Riverside Raceway, along with my Dad, and was quite the wheel man back then. Twice a year the Winston Cup Series would come to Riverside, Ca. and Ron Sr. would put it on em!! Once a year at Ontario Motor Speedway. We’d cross paths there and places like Ascot Raceway Park, Irwindale Speedway, San Gabriel Speedway, Whiteman Stadium, and other tracks too. Ron Sr. was the parts manger @ Galpin Ford on Roscoe Blvd. and the 405 freeway. Even though my father and him competed against one another, Ron Sr. always would hook my father up with a “slightly broke in / under warranty” big block Ford for the races at Riverside and Ontario. Ask Ronnie, he’ll tell you all about it. All of us back home were really proud of Ron Jr. and all that he’d accomplished in his Nascar career. He’d had an additional championship if Kyle Busch attended his “ anger management classes” earlier!!! Keep these videos coming cuz, all the hard core racers are often curious what some of these legends are up to these days. You do a really good job and you ask some really good questions as well.🏁

I'm a tad younger than he was, but I still knew your dad, he was a good man and a good driver. I knew all the drivers you mentioned (Tru and Sharon are family). And I bought Sonny Easley's championship LSD (Limited Stock Division) Mercury, but a little thing called Vietnam kinda derailed my racing career. Ron Jr and I also both worked for his dad at Galpin Ford, but that's where our careers went separate ways.

@@maxsdad538 Jim passed away around three years ago in Nipomo,Ca.(near Pismo Beach) His last racing adventure was attempting the land speed record at Bonnieville, Utah. His class was the naturally aspirated, completely stock bodied, in-line six cylinder division. At the time, the record was 136mph. and some change, and he had come close but, never broke it. He does hold the S.C.T.A. record at El Mirage though, at around 129mph. That’s in a 1946 Hudson Coupe that once belonged to, of all people, the actor, Steve McQueen! Thank you for the compliments of my Dad and my condolences on the short lived racing career due to the war. (the short racing career just might of been a blessing if, you really think about it😆) I did some dirt tracking in the early nineties in a 1971 Plymouth Roadrunner in and around the many tracks of Central California. My career, much like yours, was quite short as well (4-5 years). 🤔Do you remember the track announcer at Saugus Speedway, who’s tag line right before someone loops it was “…….whoop, whoop, whoop, whoa nellie”😁! Good times, good times. I miss it.🏁

Last of a dying breed that knew how to build them from the ground up , and that’s the advantage he and a few others had , they were into it totally , not like the nerds of today that bought their way into the sport . The Truck series started out fantastic running mostly short tracks and you never knew who would show up to race and the races were always good racing period then NASCAR started changes with needing big money and longer tracks started to kill off what made it magic and next thing no short tracks and high dollar pit crews and it was all just another expensive feeder series. When Hornaday and Skinner and Carrelli and others started it out just a great time to watch races glad I did get to see them.

I was a customer of Victory Circle back in the 90's before he got the Truck ride. I bought front clips and then built the rest of the chassis to . Their stuff like he said, was dominant. I believe the story is he acquired VC from Ivan Baldwin when he was hired by Bill Elliot to run their short track program and moved to NC.

Hell of a channel. I had some west coast regular guys to help crew and adjust on my car at Cajon. They had traveled with Hornaday when he started out. I loved the atmosphere of short track racing on the west coast. It was a different vibe than the southeast where I came from. Folks got along better and were all down to Earth. Met and raced with great folks while out there
