Star Atlas CEO interview | The Most Anticipated AAA+ Metaverse Game

There is really no reason why existing 'AAA' space games like Elite Dangerous, Eve Online, No Man's Sky or even the much maligned Star Citizen can easily steal this projects thunder - most of them already have fully fleshed out working in-game economics and communities and can update their games to work with one of the leading blockchains and NFT platforms very easily. They are selling the already existing quality of Unreal Engine 5 here (it IS a stellar software suit for sure) but you don't see or hear anything about the actual game or its broader mechanics. A lot of hype and namedropping does not make an actual AAA game. Game dev is hard! If you know the games I mentioned you also know this project is litteraly copying A LOT of features from the games mentioned. So, while I do really wish them all the best. investors should take note of all the things not mentioned. I'm seeing businessmen selling the game, not game devs explaining their vision which is imho cause for some caution.

Basically some VC's sat in a room remembered how much money Star Citizen made and brainstormed how they can further monetize this genre. Made a flashy website, some NFT space ships and a neat video trailer. All promises again, sure you can own an overpriced NFT stamped space ship on a centralized blockchain if that's a good idea. Other Space mmo's games took forever to be where they are now. There is literally no workable game deja freaking vu but with a twist lol. I get the feeling it's only going to be tradable NFT ships to sidestep being labeled a security under US law, boring and no in-game economy. This is all under a sneaky narrative and rug pulling gamers has been an art form the past 10+ years it seems like.

I think that immersive MMORPGs like Star Atlas are going to flourish in the Metaverse since it is the perfect "platform" for immersive gameplay with Earn 2 Play tokenomics being implemented through NFTs and crypto. Keep in mind that soon it will be the giants like Blizzard with their World of Warcraft and Starcraft franchises that will also be joining the metaverse. Competition is going to get steep very soon.

Hey @Paul Barron I have a question for your games expert, and maybe you can get a CEO in this space to speculate. I have been thinking about NFTs and gaming on the blockchain from a long-term perspective, and how they will stand the test of time. Graphics improve, games can grow stale, communities can shift but not necessarily ownership of assets. How will the 3d model of the NFT I own in 2022 stand up in 2026 or 2028? If the DOA becomes stale for whatever reason? I love this game don't get me wrong but gaming has been developing more and more rapidly over the years. It would be nice to see some communities last a decade or more but I'm not sure future generations have the attention span for it. Wondering your thoughts PB? Also We should do a show at some point called "PB & J" lol ?

This guy has a background in Finance, the developers don't really have AAA gaming experience. They don't have any gameplay out but are selling NFTs that are going for thousands of dollars. I am genuinely concerned about this project that nieve ppl will be pulled into this project and lose money. Please do your due diligence and look for Star Atlas criticism on youtube by people who have gaming backgrounds.

I’ve seen some criticisms and concerns along those lines on someone’s KZbin channel about three months back, but I can’t remember the channel. I don’t recall every detail, but I do recall the lack of gaming background and the money people have been putting into it, buying NFTs space ships etc that haven’t even been developed yet. Seems it’s really more an idea. Also seems that people have been misled into thinking the beautiful cinematic vedios are actually the game, but that game / gameplay, when it doesn't actually exist, it's just cinematic vedios showing people what the “vision” of what they want the game to be, yet without a team with a gaming background to produce it. That’s what I gathered from the criticism back then.

There's a game already out there like this but is playable now and not play to earn. It's called Star Citizen (coincidence on the name?) It has been in development for over 10 years and is still in it's Alpha stage. It has 15 million users. World of Warcraft has an estimated 116 million total subscribers. So let's be real, a game that practically exactly replicates Star Citizen down to the name will not have billions of users. Second, it will take equally as long to make as Star Citizen has and, third, it will fade away into the background for 10 years and you will forget about it. So basically what I'm saying is... I would not ape into this.
